The FM Global Renewables Unit is looking for a Renewable Energy Underwriter to join our international team servicing a global book of renewable energy clients. The Renewable Energy Underwriter is responsible for maintaining a profitable book of business through a strong risk selection process and an excellent understanding of FM Global business strategies, systems, applications, procedures and requirements. The ideal candidate is a proactive and strategic problem solver, with a curiosity to learn new technologies, markets and approaches to our business.

  • Maintain a profitable book of business by providing support for the unit underwriting and client service activities.
  • Perform underwriting and insurance servicing activities on existing and prospective accounts, using knowledge of exposures specific to the renewable energy space, focusing on photovoltaic solar, onshore wind, and battery energy storage systems. This includes, but is not limited to, line setting, managing reinsurance needs and placement, rating and pricing, policy construction, terms and conditions, value analysis, certificates of insurance, preparation of quotations, proposal development.
  • Support the development of account business plans with the Account Manager and Account Engineer through superior knowledge of underwriting principles, risk selection and market conditions.
  • Build and maintain positive and encouraging relationships with internal partners, and key clients and brokers as needed. Leverages these relationships to help meet profitability, client retention, and company growth objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of the latest technologies employed by our clients, renewable energy business models, market trends and their associated risks, including competitor offerings, strengths and weaknesses, profitability, emerging trends, etc.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Renewable Team Management on new business development and client servicing strategies.
  • Provide mentorship to the broader Renewables Energy Unit and organization as needed.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation of decision-making and critical documents within internal systems as appropriate.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years Underwriting experience. Experience in High Hazard underwriting or engineering is a benefit.
  • Demonstrated track record of a strong risk selection process, exposure analysis, program structure & line setting, policy terms & conditions, pricing, underwriting guidelines and a good understanding of how to lead a profitable book of business effectively.
  • Excellent understanding of FM Global's internal underwriting systems, applications, processes, requirements and authority management.
  • Strong skills in verbal and written communication, planning and organizing, analysis, judgment, decision-making, problem solving, interpersonal relations, and influence.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills required.
  • Curious and driven to learn about new technologies, market practices, and trends.
