Description:
The Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) is seeking a new addition to OGS's field mapping team, and a new member of OGS's core staff. The successful candidate will serve as OGS's lead STATEMAP Principal Investigator, work within a Geosciences research unit within OGS, and be part of a survey-wide team of 30 people. All staff contribute to both the internal management of the OGS as well as our general service mission. OGS is a unit within the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy at the University of Oklahoma. The successful candidate will interact across the OGS and the college on topics ranging from Geological History, Natural Resources, Geoheritage, and many other topics related to science, society, and the environment. Research publications are encouraged. Teaching and student supervison is by arrangement with the education units at the University of Oklahoma, such as the School of Geosciences. Many other education and outreach opportunities exist with OGS as well.
The Oklahoma Geological Survey seeks a Field Geologist who is able to:
- Independently or with a team conduct field geological mapping of bedrock and surficial units.
- Lead and manage a small project team of 3-4 people conducting field work and Arc-GIS projects, including USGS GEMS databases.
- Perform lead-PI duties for the USGS SATEMAP project, a cooperative agreement between state geological surveys and the USGS; duties include writing proposals, managing budgets, and communicating with USGS STATEMAP Management.
- Develop and pursue research opportunities in the geosciences in Oklahoma.
- Assist in service activities within OGS, the University of Oklahoma, and the state.
- Participate in Education & Outreach activities.
- Travel to project meetings and related conferences and events.
Qualifications:
Ph.D or M.Sc. with experience in Geoscience or related field.
