VA Northern California Healthcare System is seeking a Podiatrist to join a large and expanding Surgery Department.

Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist

Basic Requirements:

• Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs
• Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted
• ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
• VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status
• Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training
• ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia

• Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position
• A physical examination prior to placement is required
• This is a designated drug testing position

• Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx
• 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling
• Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously
• Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors
• Hearing aid is permitted.
Duties "**This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2024.
The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be March 11, 2024 with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) are physicians and surgeons qualified by their education and training to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the lower extremity, i.e., the foot, ankle, and where appropriate, muscles, tissues, and bones of the leg.
A DPM with training or experience in wound care may treat ulcers resulting from local and systemic etiologies on the leg no further proximal than the tibial tubercle.
DPMs are board certified who have completed four years of undergraduate, four years of podiatric medical school followed by successful completion of 3 years hospital-based residency program.
Physicians will provide both clinical and administrative Podiatry services at the VA Northern California Health Care System.
The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Diagnose and assess patients' conditions by reviewing medical histories, Diagnose and assess patients' conditions by reviewing medical histories, performing physical exams, and reviewing x rays and medical laboratory tests.
Provide nonsurgical treatment for foot, ankle, and lower leg ailments, such as prescribing special shoe inserts (orthotics) to improve a patient's mobility.
Perform foot and ankle surgeries, such as removing bone spurs, repairing fractures, and correcting other foot and ankle problems.
Advise and instruct patients about foot and ankle care and wellness.
Prescribe medications.
Refer patients to other physicians or specialists if they detect other health problems, such as diabetes or vascular disease.
Conduct research, read journals, and attend conferences to keep up with advances in podiatric medicine and surgery.
