Position Summary/Essential Duties:


Responsible for the direction and coordination of patient care delivered by staff in the adult and pediatric sleep labs.  To encourage and promote quality patient care outcomes and facilitate clinical operations.  Provides leadership through communication, education to all sleep lab technologists. .  Provide daily operational support to ensure the smooth flow of the departmental operations.  Responsibilities include:



  1. Provide hand on training to all technicians.  -15% 



    1. Multiple locations


    2. Adult and Pediatric Populations



  2. Allocates resources effectively:  directs and oversees staffing levels based on patient volume (Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity)


  3. Trains technical staff on accurate and reliable scoring-5% 


  4. Trains all staff on signal acquisition-10% 


  5. Maintains polysomnographic equipment and supplies, assuring accurate data acquisition, integrity of system and reports -15% 


  6. Scores studies, following written guidelines and assuring accuracy and consistency, assuring accuracy and timeliness of sleep reports-15% 


  7. Performs all routine and specialized and research testing according to department guidelines, including ASV, AVAPS, home sleep apnea tests, MSLTs and actigraphy for adult or pediatric patients-15% 


  8. Coordinates scheduling of all procedures, 15% 



    1. Triages patients by assessing patient’s status and identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age;


    2. communicates clinical information to patients and physician offices-



  9. Provides education regarding age appropriate care to patients and families through the entire age spectrum, including 0 through 18 years, adults, and geriatric populations.- 5%  


  10. Emulates, encourages and educates the staff on superior, age appropriate patient interaction and care.


  11.  Serves as resource for clinical technicians, scheduling team and physicians


  12. Responsible for carrying charge pager and cover on-call duties


  13. Must be detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem solving ability


  14. Performs process, operational, and system monitoring/audits to ensure that efficient, cost effective work processes are in place. 



Ensures departmental compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Experience & Knowledge:


Minimum of three years post RPSGT registration direct sleep patient care experience. 2 year general training experience preferred. Knowledge of EEG and EKG. Expertise in Sleep Study scoring accuracy per current AASM, and Interpreting Physician Standards as an ongoing quality assurance project. Progressive clinical experience. Demonstrates the ability to facilitate change, excellent communication and organizational skills.


Nationally credentialed in an accepted health-related field (respiratory care, electroneurodiagnostics, or EMT-P) or 4 year degree program and Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (or equivalent) with documented proficiency in all competencies required of a Technologist at UHC.



Required Credentials, License, and / or Certifications. You may choose from a list of certifications currently used in Oracle here. Be sure to also add credentials and licensure if applicable.   


Registered PSG technician required. Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) or equivalent such as RRT-SDS required.
