Polysomnographer Clinical performs polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education and works under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager and Medical Directors to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.  The Clinical sleep technician can serve as a preceptor to PSG Trainee and/or Technician in all age groups and settings


Competencies  include:



  1. Perform appropriate scoring of both adult and pediatric sleep studies.  
  2. Perform testing procedures PSG, titration studies, MSLT, MWT, PAP Nap, other sleep procedures, and provide effective respiratory care according to UHC Sleep Center protocols.
  3. Identifies and corrects machine malfunctions on a limited basis. 
  4. Collaborates with Sleep Center staff, and members of other disciplines to ensure a strong team and contribute to the achievement of the operational goals of the assigned area. 
  5. Provides education and age appropriate care to patients and families through the entire age spectrum, including 0 through 18 years, adults, and geriatric populations. 
  6. Takes responsibility for adherence to professional standards, self development, and participation in quality improvement activities.
Qualifications

Education/Expertise:



 



Minimal Requirements:



UH Polysomnographic Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies for that position and a minimum of 6 months experience in that position



 



OR



 



Successful completion of a polysomnography program, of no less than one-year duration (short term certificate or associate degree), associated with a state license and/or nationally accredited education facility.



Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications:



Board Certification must be achieved within 6 months of hire if coming from a one-year polysomnography program.



 



OR



Board Certification must be achieved within 12 months of hires as a trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies for the position and a minimum of 6 months experience in that position.
