Job Purpose

The Department Leader for Manufacturing Applications is responsible for overseeing and guiding the IT and manufacturing applications for AHM IT Business Unit and DMS division. This role involves strategic planning, resource allocation, and team management to ensure the efficient and effective use of technology in our manufacturing processes. The Department Leader will work closely with various stakeholders, both internal and external, to align the department’s objectives with the organization’s goals and to drive continuous improvement in our manufacturing applications.

Key Accountabilities

People & Team Management – Lead and mentor a team of IT professionals and manufacturing experts focused on efficiently achieving organizational goals.

  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment. 
  • Ensure dept. associates are motivated and inspired to achieve goals, meet objectives, and continuously improve their skills.
  • Monitor dept. operations and associate engagement through periodic associate contact to provide feedback and escalation support as necessary.
  • Review dept. performance weekly by tracking project progress updates and operation KPI reports during weekly meetings.  
  • Provide regular communication of important division or department management announcements and gather dept information to be shared with division management. 

 

Resource Management – Ensure resources are optimally allocated and managed to achieve organizational goals.

  • Monitor and approve associate and contingent working hours and overtime.
  • Plan and manage dept. charge IT equipment, travel, and training expenses.
  • Ensure achievement of project goals for the dept. as approved annually: including schedule, budget and quality commitments for operational support and projects.

 

Planning and Strategy – Analysis of AHM IT BU strategic roadmap with DMS division lead to identify and select high value projects and activities to meet relevant HDMA and AHM business needs.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive technology strategy for manufacturing.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation, data analytics, and digital transformation.
  • Align technology initiatives with business objectives.
  • Plan activities and define project targets required to meet the 1–3-year DMS division and MSA department roadmap.  Plan should include required resources and budget required.
  • Prepare the final dept. plan which supports the direction and vision of the MSA department, DMS division and the HDMA and AHM business needs.

 

Advanced Leadership – Correlate with relevant HDMA and AHM division or dept. leaders to identify business needs and influence DMS IT leadership to include in long-term IT direction and vision.

  • Build HDMA and AHM relationships and network to achieve trust and credibility, by discovering and meeting the needs of internal and external customers.  Use persuasion and influence to achieve maximum results with high quality, stable connected systems, end-to-end owner experience.
  • Work with division lead and other dept. leaders to provide a broad viewpoint of Technology, Business Direction and IT Security for the direction and vision for AHM IT business unit and DMS division.  Contribute ideas and formulate details on the execution of the 5-to-10-year strategy.

 

New Technology – Monitor and research both emerging and established IT trends and technologies.

  • Leverage technology conferences, paid consulting services and internal research to identify promising ideas and concepts for in-depth analysis.
  • Encourage associates to complete their own investigations and report their findings to the department.  Provide coaching and guidance on how to do this based on experience.
  • Guide implementation of new technology solutions through standardized architecture review and project evaluation preparation and judgement.
    • Evaluate projects against division standards for technology, security, quality, and budget.   Assign homework and follow-up items for the team.
    • Evaluate proposed system changes.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 18 years of combined experience in IT and manufacturing domains
  • Minimum 10 years in a staff leadership position, 5 years in a second level leadership position
  • Qualified candidates should have expert experience in at least two of these disciplines and working knowledge in 2 or more of these: Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Manufacturing Executions Systems (MES), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), ERP, IT/OT, Plant Floor Systems.
  • Experience leading IT, Product Development or Manufacturing activities across multiple domains that support two or more of the following disciplines: MES, PLM, ERP, IOT, Line-Production Control, Smart Factory, or Industry 4.0
  • Professional writing skills
  • Experienced in product and manufacturing development lifecycles
  • Expertise creating, giving, and evaluating upper management and executive level presentations
  • Expertise in developing and managing a budget
  • Expertise in managing vendors
  • Expertise in developing a strategic plan
