Pediatric Medical/Psych RN – Mid Shifts - 

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week

Location: Milwaukee

Shift: 12 Hour mid shifts (1100-2300)

Weekends/Holiday Requirement: rotate every other

Required certifications needed: WI or compact RN license, AHA BLS, Crisis Prevention Training 

Minimum experience: two years of behavioral health experience, with pediatric experience preferred. Experience in a combined pediatric medical and psych setting is preferred. Need to have experience with patients requiring 1:1 sitter due to risk of harm to self or others and impulsive behavior. 

Education: ADN, BSN preferred

Charting: Epic experience within the last year required

Patient Ratios: 1:1

Responsibilities: Supports and participates in the integrated, individualized plan of care for a patient with behavior health needs.  The ideal candidate will have strong experience in verbal de-escalation, therapeutic communication, and a strong ability to navigate challenging situations while maintaining a professional and calm atmosphere.  Conducts mental and behavioral health screenings, evaluates change in condition, and promptly initiates proper protocols to create a safe environment.  Collaborates with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary healthcare team to determine the need for additional diagnostic assessments and behavior health services.  The right candidate must be able to adapt their approach and communication style to match the needs of the patient.

Required clinical skills: Ability to discern restraint justification, proper application/removal, and complete required assessments/documents per facility protocol.  Performs 1:1 care with a patient receiving bolus tube feedings, NG tube monitoring/assessments/discontinuation, supplemental IV fluids, medication administration (IV, IM, PO/NG tube).  Capability to proficiently insert an NG tube highly preferred.
