Expectations Registered Respiratory Therapist Pediatrics * RCP will be proficient in the following categories as applicable…. • Medicated Aerosol Therapy o Small volume nebulizers o Breath actuated nebulizer o Vibrating mesh nebulizers o Patient Education for aerosol, MDI,DPI therapy o DPI, MDI & holding chamber o Pentamidine Administration o Medication carts, Omnicell o Bar Coding Medication Administration • Airway clearance therapy o Clapping, vibration and directed cough o Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP) and oscillatory PEP o Hyperinflation therapy (IS, EZPAP) o High Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation o Intermittent Percussive Ventilation (IPV) o Acoustic Airway Clearance o Cough Assist • Airway management o Suctioning o Tracheostomy care o Manual ventilation o Intubation assist • Assisted ventilation o Mechanical ventilation o Ventilator system checks o CPAP/BiPAP/NIMV o Negative Pressure Ventilation o Initiation and management of NAVA • High Risk Delivery o Surfactant administration o NRP protocol o T-piece ventilation o Intubation • Blood gas sampling o Blood gas analysis o Blood gas interpretation • Humidity Therapy o Heated humidity. Aerosol mask, trach collar, t-piece, face shield o HME • Clinical Practice Guidelines o Asthma Care Path o CF care o RDS management and BPD prevention o Acute Chest Syndrome Carepath o HFNC Protocol o Respiratory Care Consult Service Nitric Oxide Protocol • Monitoring o Pulse oximetry o peak flow meters o capnography o ventilator graphic interpretation o Overnight or continuous pulse oximetry and capnography studies o Spontaneous Breathing Trial o Transcutaneous CO2 monitoring • Transport o HFNC portable unit o T-piece ventilation o MRI o Internal with assisted ventilation o Neonatal Rapid Response Team o Nitric Oxide Transport • Oxygen and Special gas Therapy o Nasal cannula, oxygen masks o High flow nasal cannula o Oxygen tanks, blenders, analyzers o Inhaled Nitric Oxide 2 point calibration and troubleshooting o Sub ambient oxygen, Heliox Therapy • Cleaning, equipment Will work in one or more of the following areas: Rainbow Babies & Children's; Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU, Pediatric Cardiac ICU, Trach/ vent unit, Emergency room, General Respiratory Care MacDonald Women's Hospital: Women's Respiratory Care, High Risk Delivery Interfaces with Attending, fellow, APP, PA, NP in the ICUs, and Hospitalist, resident providers, nursing and other disciplines
