*IMMEDIATE OPENING* for Pediatric Ophthalmologist (coverage) to support the NICU Department of the Naval Health Center, Portsmouth, VA.

*SPECIFIC TASKS. *Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Contact patient and referring physicians to provide results of studies and tests.
* Consult with the requesting physician before a procedure is done, deciding on procedure and ensuring the minimization of the invasion of the patient.
* Maintain responsibility of the patient who has required pediatric ophthalmology consultative or procedural services within the ophthalmology department or when admitted to the hospital either as a consulting or admitting service. Includes when patients are present for examination, require supervision for critical illness, for emergency treatment and/or resuscitative measures, when necessary.
* Competently perform ophthalmology procedures utilizing multiple imaging modalities.
* Evaluate and, as necessary, treat other patients identified within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as needing inpatient ophthalmologic evaluation.
* – Evaluate and treat patients identified by the NICU as meeting criteria for ROP evaluation. Provide continued care through inpatient discharge and ensure appropriate outpatient follow-up.

*Education:*
* Degree/Education*: *Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) trained in the practice of medicine who have completed an ACGME accredited ophthalmology dedicated residency and pediatric ophthalmology fellowship programs.
* Certifications*: *Have and maintain a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Such certification must be from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association
* Experience*: *Possess a minimum of one year’s experience actively practicing as a full-time pediatric ophthalmologist during the last three years, or have graduated from a fellowship within the last 12 months. Fully qualified for clinical privileges in Pediatric Ophthalmology including the evaluation and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity.
* Board Certification: Board eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO)
* Licensure/Registration: Must possess a current, active, unrestricted and valid state Physician License in one of the 50 Sates, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
