The RN in the pediatric emergency room (ER) is responsible for delivering high-quality, compassionate care to pediatric patients presenting with various medical conditions, injuries, or traumas. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, the RN ensures efficient triage, assessment, treatment, and monitoring of pediatric patients in a fast-paced environment.
*Responsibilities:*
* Perform thorough assessments of pediatric patients, including obtaining medical history, vital signs, and chief complaints.
* Prioritize patient care based on the acuity of their condition, ensuring those with the most critical needs receive immediate attention.
* Administer medications, initiate IV access, and perform procedures as ordered by physicians or advanced practice providers.
* Assist in stabilizing pediatric patients experiencing respiratory distress, seizures, trauma, or other acute conditions.
* Utilize pediatric-specific equipment and techniques to provide safe and effective care.
* Communicate effectively with pediatric patients and their families, providing education and emotional support throughout their healthcare journey.
* Collaborate with families to develop individualized care plans and address their concerns and preferences.
* Foster a supportive and empathetic environment to alleviate anxiety and promote trust and cooperation.
* Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and ensure continuity of services.
* Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, sharing pertinent patient information and contributing to care decisions.
* Serve as an advocate for pediatric patients and their families within the healthcare team and the broader healthcare system.
* Maintain accurate and comprehensive electronic health records, documenting assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
* Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and regulatory requirements governing pediatric emergency care.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, satisfaction, and outcomes.
*Qualifications:*
*- *Current RN licensure in the New York state of practice.
- Minimum 2 years of experience of pediatric emergency care is desirable.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $81.00 - $83.00 per hour
