A Technician at Opterra Solutions is responsible for performing vegetation management services outdoors on customer sites which include industrial plant sites, utility substations, airports, railroads, distribution centers, telecom tower sites, and other commercial areas at or near business sites.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Experience of previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience preferred
Ability to travel 30 % by vehicle, with overnight travel throughout the territory

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the ability to sit, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day
Must have the ability to routinely lift, push, pull, or move equipment of 50 pounds or more
Must have the ability to drive company vehicles and equipment
Must have the ability to obtain a DOT medical card

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must have the ability to withstand exposure to various weather conditions while completing work assignments (rain, heat, humidity, sun, etc.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Use a variety of techniques including chemical and mechanical methods to manage unwanted vegetation
Identify designated areas for treatment to determine which appropriate course of action - sales
Develop plans to manage natural areas and resources -
Cultivate turfgrass and implement growth regulation – iii or iv, specialized
Prepare chemicals or materials for work application
Apply knowledge of research findings to address environmental problems
Dispose of trash or waste materials
Remove debris or vegetation from work sites
Advise others about land management conservation
Record agriculture or forestry inventory data
Adhere to company policies and procedures
Adhere to safety procedures including conforming to all OSHA standards and properly using personal protective equipment (PPE)
Verify that hazardous chemicals are handled, stored, and disposed of in accordance with regulations
Keep record of usage and disposal of hazardous chemicals
Operate grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, seed spreaders, straw blowers and snow blowers
Maintain and operate forestry or agricultural equipment such as tractors, UTVs, mowers, excavators, and similar equipment
Operate towed machines such as cutters and spreaders to cut and spray areas
Drive trucks or other vehicles to or at work sites, with or without trailers to haul supplies and tools
Operate heavy equipment or vehicles with adjustable attachments to clear sites, or move materials
Walk beside or ride on machines while operating mechanisms at specified intervals
Load and unload containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand-trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers
Lift, push, and pull hoses or equipment into place for application
Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery
Direct vehicle traffic including flagging motorists and setting out signs and cones
Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes
Perform preventative, routine maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment
Adjust, repair and service machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions
Clean or service machinery to ensure operating efficiency
Confer with supervisors to make operational decisions
Participate in company meetings, trainings and state licensure programs
Perform other duties as assigned
