*Responsibilities:*

The Medical Director is responsible for developing and implementing the facility’s medical protocols and standards. The Medical Director shall supervise all medical staff and review and countersign all appropriate documentation. The Medical Director will work closely with the clinical and medical leadership to ensure provision of high quality services.

*Required:*
* Licensed and Certified in the State of Massachusetts.
* Graduate of an Accredited School of Medicine Completion of a psychiatric and addictionology residency.
* Professional Liability Insurance
* Valid state medical license as MD or DO. Board Certified in Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine. Valid DEA certificate
* 5+ years specializing in addiction and/or mental health – preferred.
* Preferred Expert Knowledge: Mental health, trauma, abuse, and exploitation. Suicide prevention and training. Federal and state regulations and standard. Joint Commission standards. Medical protocols and best practices

*SUPERVISED BY*: Executive Director; Peer evaluated by outside MD or other internal MD with similar license.

*POSITION/INDIVIDUALS SUPERVISED*: Overall Responsible for all Medical Staff

*SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITION *
* Supervise physicians and mid-levels; performing quality assurance activities and ensuring the providers are meeting the organization’s expectations. Supervision also includes hiring/terminating, training, and scheduling.
* Responsible for consistent evaluations of all medical providers, including during their first 90 days of employment and anytime required thereafter.
* Enhance cooperation between Nurses, Physicians, and relevant medical/nursing staff.
* Ensure that the medical staff and facility comply with the federal rules, regulations, and codes.
* Review and countersign all medical and psych documentation. If trainings are identified, promptly work with the providers. Periodically audit patient charts to ensure the highest level of compliance.
* Assist with patient education regarding MAT, medications, health, and wellness.
* Ensure patients are on proper and effective medication regiments and protocols (Inpatient and Outpatient).
* Interview patients to obtain history, performing physical examination, diagnose, ordering lab and other tests, prescribing medications and treatments.
* Provide continuity in managed care for patients throughout their treatment episode.
* Work directly with providers to educate them on our care process and determine what can be done to improve overall care quality.
* Participate in various administrative, clinical and operational staff meetings, including but not limited to quarterly QA meetings, treatment team meetings, and vendor meetings.
* Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s specific needs.
* Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.

*ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:* The position requires work in a temperature-controlled environment, with 95% of the time spent indoors. Potential exposure to violent situations. Potential exposure to airborne/blood-borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.
