Open Door is seeking a *Exercise Instructor *to work in our Ossining, NY location. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, of Wellness Programs, the Exercise Instructor will teach both virtual and in-person fitness classes. Primary responsibilities include teaching scheduled fitness classes, maintaining and promoting a respectful environment during classes, communicating with members of the Open Door Wellness Team regarding attendance and other pertinent matters related to fitness classes and/or other programs offered at Open Door, ensuring that technologies needed for virtual classes are in working order while teaching.

*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
* Provides group exercise instruction to patients and staff of Open Door
* Instructs scheduled classes that begin and end on time
* Prepares for classes in advance including, as applicable, a lesson plan, appropriate equipment, and music
* Maintains and promotes a respectful environment during classes so that the exercise experience is positive for participants
* Utilizes evidence-based, research-based and well-regarded approaches to instruction (e.g. warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, proper form)
* When teaching classes on site, ensures and maintains a clean and safe environment in the Wellness Center
* Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to
* Takes attendance and communicates attendance to the Open Door Wellness Team in a timely manner
* Communicates with the Associate Director, Wellness Programs (and other Wellness Team members as appropriate) regarding any management or operating problems that may affect quality and standards of Wellness classes
* Meets with Associate Director, Wellness Programs on a quarterly basis to review and evaluate program goals related to group fitness instruction

*QUALIFICATIONS*
* Education: Degrees and Certification(s) in good standing:Personal Trainer or Group Exercise Instructor Certification such as; ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), ACE (American Council on Exercise), AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), NASM (National Academy of Sport Medicine), etc.
* Zumba® Instructor (and ZIN® membership in good standing)Advanced degree in exercise science
* Certification in CPR/AED in good standing

*SKILLS*
* Fluent (or conversational at a level required to teach) in English and Spanish
* Strong interpersonal skills including excellent active listening and clear oral communication skills
* Engaging, warm and caring personality
* Motivational and enthusiastic
* Strong customer service, patient-centered orientation
* Culturally competent/sensitive (racial, ethnic, linguistic, LGBTQ+, physical ability, etc.) and committed to inclusive, multi-cultural programming
* Comfortable providing services to individuals age 18 and older
* Proficient in email and virtual delivery technologies related to group exercise (e.g. Zoom)
* Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm as applicable
* Passionate about providing high quality care to low-income, under-served residents and those lacking access to health care.

*EXPERIENCE*
* Experience teaching group exercise

*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
* Approximately 2% walking 98% physical activity
* The work requires standing and walking with bending and carrying of light items. However, the position also involves long periods of moving about the work unit. The work requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, and stretching, with some lifting and repositioning patients, or similar activities.
