Geotemps, Inc. is seeking an Underground Geotechnician for a gold mine site outside of Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time underground” and will spend the majority of their shifts underground performing rock face chip sampling with the mine geologists. This is a high physical demand job that also includes a certain level of technical aptitude with computers for data entry.

The Underground Geotech will work on a staggered 14:7 schedule that will include the day shift and night shift. This is an entry-level role but is highly suitable for anyone who has worked underground and is comfortable in the environment.

This is a remote camp position, where housing and food will be covered for employees during their working rotation.

Duties will include:

1. Moving, stacking, and cutting core and transferring splits to appropriate locations for storage or in preparation for assay
2. Transporting, washing, laying out, photographing, and cutting core, preparing core for sampling, preparing samples for shipment, expediting supplies, data collection, and data entry
3. Collect samples and data from the underground drilling area.
4. Following detailed instructions from an underground geologist
5. Assisting with the collection handling, counting, and inventory control of rock samples, and sample bags
6. Actively follow all mine health, safety, and environmental practices
7. Assist with maintaining a proactive work environment.

Skills & Qualifications:

1. Be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
2. Possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
3. Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
4. Be willing to take the initiative when necessary and possess a current surface MSHA certification.
5. Ability to follow detailed instructions.
6. Ability to complete post-offer background checks, reference checks, drug screening, and physical tests.
7. The ability to operate a forklift or hold a forklift operator card would be a plus but is not required.
8. Some underground geotechnical experience would be a plus but is not required.

Environmental & Physical Requirements:

1. Underground environment – exposure to heat, humidity, dust, uneven & muddy ground
2. Ability to work a 12-hour shift underground.
3. Ability to lift and carry 55lbs regularly.
4. Ability to work in temperatures ranging from extreme lows with the potential of inclement weather including snow, rain, or high winds.
5. Ability to constantly walk, push, pull, stand, sit, squat, crawl, kneel, or reach for extended periods on muddy, dusty, or uneven ground.
6. Ability to wear and possess Personal Protective Equipment that includes a reflective vest, steel-toed or safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, and hearing protection.
