The Construction Inspection Sr (Operations) performs skilled inspections of linear water and wastewater-related infrastructure construction projects and operations and maintenance work. Work is performed frequently in cooperation with skilled and/or unskilled trade employees, construction contractors, technicians, and/or field engineers. Performs work under general supervision with regular review and advice from a manager or senior-level professional. Works with supervisor to perform skilled inspections of various types on water distribution and/or sewer collection infrastructure. May assess or inspect construction work performed by City operations and maintenance crews and/or contracted construction crews on buried water and wastewater infrastructure. 
Maintains records and logs, updates field notes, drawings, and other documentation as necessary on a daily basis. 
Reads, comprehends, and interprets construction plans, sketches, plat cards, GIS maps, engineering reports, and other written records to investigate and resolve infrastructure issues, construct buried water and wastewater infrastructure, resolve customer complaints. May observe construction and assist with the resolution of construction-related issues. 
Exercises good customer service skills and technical skills, along with the ability to keep managers and other stakeholders abreast of any changes in policies, methods, and operational protocols as they pertain to departmental construction operations. 
Ensures that daily job documentation is properly entered into Department’s CMMS software program. 
Prepares as-built documents and necessary to memorialize constructed infrastructure work. 
May work as part of a team to inspect, maintain, and operate water mains and associated appurtenances and/or sewer conveyance systems and appurtenances. 
Decision Making Generally, operates under the specific direction of manager, senior professional or higher, ranking manager. Knowledge: Must obtain knowledge of department policies and procedures and applicable industry standards. In-depth knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures and construction techniques as it pertains to buried water/wastewater; related infrastructure, general construction site safety. Detailed knowledge of the methods, products, tools and equipment used in water/wastewater maintenance and construction work, basic mathematical principles. 
Skill in performing all typical tasks associated observation of construction activities and maintenance of buried water/wastewater infrastructure; Skill in utilizing construction and maintenance tools and equipment to inspect, investigate and troubleshoot various infrastructure issues.  Ability: Ability to understand and apply pertinent policies, procedures, and regulations; ability to prepare written and computer based daily logs, activity sheets, project sketches, reports, and other supporting documentation; ability to perform maintenance and troubleshooting activities involving skills in the functional fields to which assigned; Ability to read, understand and interpret construction drawings, sketches, specifications and engineering reports and the ability to make basic field-related engineering computations 
Four (4) years of construction inspection, field engineering and/or maintenancerelated experience pertaining to the installation, and/or repair of underground infrastructure.  Associate degree in an engineering and/or construction-related field preferred. 
Five (5) years of construction inspection, field engineering and/or maintenance; related experience pertaining to the installation of underground infrastructure.  Water Distribution Operator License or Wastewater Collection System Operator License within one year (Required)  Essential Capabilities and Work Environment  Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.
