The Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein), one of the nation’s leading research-intensive medical schools, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health (DEPH; Division of Epidemiology) in collaboration with the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center (MECCC).
The experience expected from applicants, as well as additional skills and qualifications needed for this job are listed below.
The mission of the Division of Epidemiology in the DEPH is to conduct population-based studies on the development of and outcomes of communicable and non-communicable diseases, with an emphasis on behavioral risk factors, occupational/environmental exposures, social determinants of health, and molecular variation. Faculty are mostly molecular epidemiologists, population scientists, and methodologists who work extensively with collaborators throughout the Montefiore-Einstein community, and beyond, through major grant-funded research initiatives and leadership roles.
We welcome applications from outstanding candidates at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, commensurate with experience and accomplishments. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research broadly intersects with cancer epidemiology, prevention, and control, including, but not limited to, (1) characterizing the risk factors that affect the populations that the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center serves, (2) improving cancer prevention and screening among high-risk groups in the Bronx and beyond, and (3) developing and implementing innovative strategies to enhance cancer care outcomes and participation in clinical trials. Successful candidates will have a strong record of collaboration. Publications, extramural funding, or both, are highly desirable.
Departmental and Cancer Center strengths and fit
The DEPH is home to more than 109 full-time, part-time and voluntary faculty. The DEPH provides training to a new generation of physicians, clinical researchers and other members of the public health workforce through the Clinical Research Training Program (M.S. degree), Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation, and medical school curriculum. The Department is one of the oldest of its kind, with origins in the first hospital-based Division of Social Medicine in the United States.
Einstein provides a highly collaborative environment, with access to rich population-based and clinical cohorts, institutional datasets, genomics resources, imaging platforms, and opportunities for cross-disciplinary partnerships. MECCC offers an exceptionally rich environment for collaborative cancer research, with multidisciplinary programs that connect basic, translational, clinical, and population sciences, as well as extensive shared resources. Its strengths include tumor microenvironment and metastasis, stem cell and cancer biology, cancer therapeutics, and cancer epidemiology, prevention, and control, supported by a strong commitment to integrating bench science, physician-scientist expertise, clinical trials, and discovery-driven translational research. The Center fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across investigators working to understand cancer mechanisms, develop novel prevention and intervention strategies, and accelerate the translation of discoveries into patient benefit.
Qualifications
Successful applicants will:
- Have demonstrated excellence in a cancer-related discipline such as epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health sciences, implementation science, cost-effectiveness research, community engagement, or digital health.
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, including with cancer biologists, clinicians, pathologists, informaticists, and data scientists.
- Have a clear and compelling research program with the potential to attract external funding and advance the mission of the Department and the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Applicants should send a letter of interest, C.V., statement of research and teaching interests, and names of at least three referees, in electronic format to:
H Dean Hosgood, PhD, MPH
Professor and Division Head, Epidemiology, Department of Epidemiology and Population Health
Associate Director, Population and Community Sciences, Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center
