General Description and Classification Standards

The Summer Intern in Capital Delivery at the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) will work alongside our Capital Delivery team to gain hands-on experience in managing and executing infrastructure improvement projects throughout the city of Atlanta. This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of vital transportation infrastructure while learning from experienced professionals in the field.

Supervision Received :

Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Project Support: Assist project managers in the planning, execution, and completion of capital projects, including road construction, bridge maintenance, and traffic signal installations. 

2. Documentation: Help maintain accurate project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets, and change orders. 

3. Fieldwork: Participate in site visits to observe construction activities, conduct inspections, and document project progress. 

4. Data Analysis: Analyze project data to track performance metrics, monitor project budgets, and identify areas for improvement. 

5. Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and city officials to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget while adhering to regulatory requirements. 

6. Reporting: Assist in preparing regular project status reports, presentations, and updates for departmental meetings and stakeholders. 

7. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline project delivery processes and improve efficiency within the Capital Delivery team. 

8. Community Engagement: Support outreach efforts to engage with residents and stakeholders affected by capital projects, providing information and addressing concerns as needed.

  • Ability to have effective verbal and written communication. 
  • Ability to carry out instructions and deliver work products with minimal supervision and promptly. Working knowledge of research and basic statistical techniques as well as MS Office Aptitude for transportation, land use, and development-related matters, attention to detail, and, above all, critical thinking capabilities. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, and members of the public. 
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and interpret reports and related materials, assemble information, and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner.
