ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A LEAD PAINTER / BLASTER falls into the medium physical demand category and will report directly to the Foreman.
  1. Provides Leadership, instruction and guidance to craft workers in work crew.
  2. Provides assistance to Foreman.
  3. Displays a positive attitude towards Safety, Quality, Policy and Procedures.
  4. Has the knowledge of and exercises all of OSHA, Brand and Customer policies at job site.
  5. Complete a qualified Job Safety Plan identifying the hazards and risks and implement necessary controls.
  6. Select and use proper PPE as identified on the JSP.
  7. Demonstrate proper surface preparation prior to coatings application or abrasive blasting activities. (housekeeping, etc.)
  8. Must be able to read and interpret isometric drawings, plan drawings, paint specifications, instructions, and other documentation or plan work activities.
  9. Properly prepares abrasive blasting equipment and pneumatic surface preparation equipment along with painting equipment for use.
  10. Applies coatings to protect interior or exterior surfaces of structures including buildings to the specified thickness.
  11. Paints surfaces using conventional, airless, plural equipment, brushes, or paint rollers.
  12. Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies using proper lift technique and/or lift equipment.
  13. May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces in order to perform work activities.
  14. Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  15. Participate and mentor crew to lead tool box talks on Safety and Performance.
  16. Monitor and recognize behavior and health changes in team members and communicate those to management.
  17. Complete other duties as deemed necessary by Supervisor.
  18. Promote and Build Team attitude and complete other duties as required by Supervisor.


EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM JOB:
  1. PPE (FRC free of holes, Hard Hat, Gloves, Safety Glasses, Safety Boots, respiratory protection, as required, etc.)
  2. Hand tools: Wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, paintbrush, roller, paint scraper, putty knife, and abrasives.
  3. Abrasive Blasting Equipment: Hoses, air compressors, moisture control equipment and remote switches.
  4. Pneumatic Equipment: Spray attachments, grinders & buffers with guards, hoses, air compressors, and aerial-lift equipment.
  5. Other: Ladders, scaffold, and swing stage.


OTHER ASPECTS AND DEMANDS OF THE JOB NOT LISTED:

The LEAD PAINTER / BLASTER must be able to prepare a variety of surfaces for the application of paint or finishing products. Must be able to properly mix and apply entire coating system to specification requirements. The employee may perform these functions on site or in the company blast yard. Other Lead Painter duties may include:
  1. Knowledgeable in the selection and mixing of multi-component products.
  2. Knowledgeable in the use and application of both a wet and dry mil gauge.
  3. Knowledge of quality control checks and inspections.
  4. Knowledge of material handling techniques.
  5. Knowledgeable of proper surface preparation techniques.
  6. Perform general laborer duties which pertain to the specific trade.
  7. Supervise apprentices to ensure adherence to the applicable coatings procedures.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or GED, preferred.
  2. Bilingual Communication preferred.
  3. Driver requirements in accordance with Brand Vehicle Policy, if required.
  4. Must have 4 years of experience in the painting/coating craft.
  5. Must pass Brand's skills assessment.
  6. Must be NCCER certified as an Industrial Painter.
  7. Must be willing to become a qualified Brand Mentor within 6 months from date of hire or complete the customer short service worker program.
  8. Based on to customer requirements, may be able to pass an extensive background check.
  9. Some computer skills may be required.


COMPENSATION:
  1. Hourly, Non-exempt.
  2. Rate based on project size, complexity, and candidate qualifications and may be adjusted based upon job performance.
  3. Additional compensation (per diem, safety incentives, etc.) available as per project contract.
  4. No rate, level of job assignment or duration of job is guaranteed.
