Job Description:
Surgical Technologists perform various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the ORT Iwill support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.Posting Specifics
Entry Pay: $26.90/hour + depending on experience

Shift Details: Full-time, 40 hours/week. Shifts are flexible depending on staffing needs. 8-12 hour shifts are available.
Department: Operating Room, St. Mary's Medical Center (Grand Junction, Colorado)
Scope
1. Assists in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Assembles, organizes and completes case carts according to doctors preference lists.
2. Provides appropriate instrumentation, suture and all supplies as requested and provides and maintains a sterile environment. May assist surgeon by passing instruments to surgeon during cases.
3. Counts sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper technique and established policy.
4. Assists in maintenance and care of specimens and prepares for laboratory analysis. Handles specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated materials and sharps in accordance with established policy and recommended standards of practice
5. Assists with timely turnover of rooms, including clean up, replacement and restocking of supplies and equipment. Cares for instruments and equipment.
6. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
8. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
9. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
Minimum Qualifications
Required (Levels I - III)
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval
- Graduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent on the job training is required
- Registered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is required
Required (Level IV)
- High school diploma or GED is required

- Graduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent on the job training is required
- Registered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is required
- NCCT Surgical Technologist certification (TS-C) or NBSTSA certification is required
Preferred
- 1 year of OR scrubbing experience is preferred
- 1year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital is preferred

Physical Requirements:
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
