Job Summary

Department Summary:

The Office of Student Conflict Resolution (OSCR) promotes a safe and scholarly community in which students navigate conflict in a safe, just, and self-reflexive manner. OSCR maintains responsibility for general student community accountability under the student conduct policy known as the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities. OSCR also provides a full range of community conflict-resolution resources through a spectrum of conflict resolution pathways that are educationally focused, student-driven, community-owned, restorative in nature, and which are adaptable to meet the needs of individuals experiencing conflict.

Position Summary:

The Project Manager Senior role includes managing the implementation and administration of University-wide policies, procedures, standards, and communications related to community accountability procedures. The Project Manager Senior oversees multiple complex projects that support divisional and institutional priorities. Key responsibilities include assembling and managing project teams, assigning tasks, identifying needed resources, and developing project schedules. The role involves collaboration with functional area leaders, tracking project progress, and managing yearly reporting and ongoing communications. Central to the role is creation of data-driven materials in support of time-sensitive, highly confidential communications intended for Regents, University President, Executive Officers, etc.

Responsibilities*

Project Management for Conduct Accountability Process Infrastructure (60%)

  • Responsible for the management, performance, and successful execution of multiple complex concurrent projects of varying scope in the delivery of University conduct and accountability infrastructure framework at U-M Ann Arbor.
  • Lead autonomous work to analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action with authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance.
  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables, while developing detailed plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assemble project team(s), assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project(s).
  • Manage the entire life cycle of projects, including prioritizing, planning, implementing, leading project meetings, and reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines and constraints, and allocate resources for project success. Develop detailed work plans, schedules, and status reports of conduct and accountability initiatives.
  • Provide analytical guidance to the Director based on all available data and available independent research and benchmarking, as required.
  • Work with the Director to coordinate the creation of a shared Common Agenda including a common understanding of conduct processes.
  • Monitor progress and address any issues that arise, providing regular updates to institutional leadership, the Student Life leadership team, OSCR members, and community stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with a variety of other key campus units internal and external to Student Life on issues relating to effective support, safety, and educational measures for students in the U-M community. Builds, maintains, and advances strategic relationships with referring and referral entities and strategic partners, such as ECRT, academic units, Athletics, Housing, Dean of Students, Law Enforcement, etc.
  • Resolve issues, manage changes, and escalate issues to achieve project outputs; build consensus among stakeholders with disparate viewpoints.
  • Provide comprehensive management of high-profile casework through established conduct accountability processes.
  • Provide management leadership and assistance to the Director for the administration of the unit's formal conduct and accountability processes including, analyzing and evaluating incidents and resolution options while making independent decisions on related matters.
  • Ensure appropriate processes are followed with accuracy, sound judgment, and with full rights to due process and fundamental fairness.
  • Provide oversight to the coordination of appropriate and balanced case management, including effective intake procedures, timely case processing, appropriate educational measures, effective referrals, and the delegation of additional responsibilities to other staff where appropriate.
  • Provide oversight to case file management, data management, and records retention. This includes oversight of the advocate database case management system. Serve as the primary liaison for external partners utilizing the advocate database system.

Communications and Report Writing (20%)

  • Build and implement communication plans to ensure campus stakeholders are aware, involved, and engaged as appropriate.
  • Manage highly sensitive, FERPA protected information, and ensure proper adherence. Identify, mitigate and/or eliminate unit, divisional, and institutional risk-management concerns.
  • Regularly interact, in support of Director, with institutional leadership at the Regental, Presidential and Executive Officer level.
  • Engage with parents, attorneys, and other individuals present to provide support for students engaged in OSCR processes.
  • Communicate effectively to a multitude of audiences, using the appropriate medium(s) of communication at the appropriate time, in order to elicit feedback, share information, and construct messaging that will have the maximum impact on project goals.
  • Provide regular reports on progress against goals and indicators.
  • Assist in the development of presentations to a range of audiences regarding conduct and accountability needs.
  • Work in collaboration with the OSCR Associate Director and OSCR database manager to ensure effective reporting and coordination with key partners to eliminate instances of duplication.

Data and Evaluation (10%)

  • Provide project recommendations based on highly sensitive, confidential and complex data.
  • Identify the most salient and compelling data specifics to tell the story and demonstrate progress toward community accountability goals and interests.
  • Collect, develop and utilize supporting data, analytical tools, benchmarking, metrics and measurement to inform progress, impact, and decision-making.
  • Make project change recommendations as needed; responsible for escalating issues that require change.
  • Provide Director with relevant data to establish key performance indicators and monitor and measure progress towards stated outcome goals.

Other Related Duties (10%)

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director or division leadership.
  • Work on evenings and weekends required on occasion.
Required Qualifications*
  • Graduate degree in higher education, law, or other related field of study.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible Student affairs related experience.
  • Proficient in project management tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Experience working in the complex environment of a large non-profit or large academic institution.
  • Experience with complex project management and stakeholder management.
Modes of Work

Financial/Budgetary Responsibility:

  • This role will assist the Director in managing and recommending essential resources necessary for effective process management.

Compliance:

  • This role is designated as an Individual with Reporting Obligations (IRO) under Title IX and the UM Sexual and Gender-based Misconduct Policy. This role has reporting obligations under Title VI.

Working Conditions:

  • Position requires on-site work and is eligible for hybrid work up to 2 days per week.
  • Requires some evening or weekend work.

Physical Requirements:

  • May require the occasional movement of objects up to 25lbs.
