FUNCTION: The Quality Manager will coordinate and ensure at the plant level that all products being sent out meet consumer expectations. This position will also require the training of the quality team to recognize defects and imperfections at all stages of the manufacturing and packaging process to uphold consistent quality standards. The Quality Manager will communicate expectations to the team and observe production processes to identify the causes of common types of mistakes or defects. The Quality Manager will define ways that will result in the limiting of human error on the production line, track the impact of different policies on defective parts. The Quality Manager will also need to determine how much waste results from errors on the production line and define through RCA how to correct the problem.


PRODUCT(S) PRODUCED: Steel Golf Club Shafts.

Materials Used:  Steel, chemicals, heat treating furnaces, draw benches, weigh machines, cutting operations, polishing, presses, label machines and bending operations.


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The Quality Manager will report to the Plant Manager and will interact with the True Temper Team in Amory MS as well as the corporate office team. The Quality Manager will interact daily with payroll, Human resources, the operations team, hourly team, finance, IT, quality team and maintenance team.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific primary responsibilities are defined by the following, but those listed are not all-inclusive:


Safety:

  • Ensure personal compliance with safety policies and rules, including PPE requirements.
  • Report any issues that need further follow up or root cause analysis.
  • Collect/evaluate all quality documents, accountability checks, and requests daily.
  • Make recommendations at required meetings regarding procedures, processes or tools that improve safety and support a safe work environment.


Required Activities:

  • Understanding customer expectations and needs from our product
  • Develop and implement quality control processes and procedures
  • Design product specifications and ensure adherence to legal and safety standards
  • Supervise and guide staff and monitor production standards and output
  • Examine the quality of raw materials and finished products
  • Monitor and evaluate internal production processes and identify areas for improvement
  • Report and resolve quality issues and malfunctions through RCA
  • Appraise customer requirements and ensure satisfaction
  • Coordinate with external quality assurance auditors and technicians that the product is up to customer expectations
  • Maintain quality records and documentation
  • Developing and implementing quality control tests
  • Inspect products at various stages of production
  • Write A3 reports on their findings
  • Engage with customers and gather product feedback
  • Managing Quality Management System (QMS) process
  • Provide guidance to team members with quality performance feedback on performance


QUALIFICATIONS:

Specific to Position.

  • Ability to read and understand various documents related to the production process.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate knowledge of industry standards
  • Quality control certification is advantageous or Greenbelt/Blackbelt
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to accurately record data in both manual and computer formats
  • Strong analytical ability with the ability to present the data visually to show results
  • Good interpersonal communication skills: ability to work closely and cooperatively with other team members to achieve production goals in a safe and effective manner
  • Ability to build Cross functional working teams by development of skillsets
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities, respond to immediate operational needs
  • Lean manufacturing background with experience implementing lean practices and kaizen events
  • Ability to operate under deadlines while still meeting standards
  • Ability to handle stress


Background:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree
  • Advanced math skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Continuous improvement background green/blackbelt preferred
  • Previous experience in the metals industry preferred


Physical Requirements:  Physical activities and/or requirements include:

  • Near and far eyesight with accurate, average field of vision, color and depth perception.
  • Ability to stand/sit for required hours of the workday.
  • Ability to safely move around a plant environment up to 16 hours per day including frequent bending, stooping, climbing of ladders/stairs, and occasional exposure to extreme heat.
  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours as required and maintain job performance standards.
