Overview:
A professional who has a minimum of 10 years of estimating experience and at least 3 years of field experience in Heavy Civil Construction. The candidate should also be knowledgeable in various contract delivery methods: design-build, design-bid-build, Lump Sum, etc., and have contract experience with FDOT/Turnpike, cities/counties, port authority, and South Florida Water Management District.
This candidate must be self-motivated, willing to collaborate with peers, teach engineers, and constantly strive to identify problems and solutions.

Responsibilities:
- Understand bid items, basis of estimate, and identify errors and discrepancies in plans and specifications.
- Read plans, specifications, requests for proposals, requests for information, addendums, and technical special provisions.
- Build green sheet estimates, breakdown activity structures, construction schedules, and risk matrix analyses.
- Create job budgets for awarded contracts.
- Understand bid strategies, cost-saving initiatives, and management skills.
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs within the time frame.
- Estimate entire jobs individually.
- Study and review all estimating reports: equipment total hours, labor total hours, key indicators, equipment balance analysis, etc.
- Review updated FDOT Standards and Specifications.
- Lead estimating discussions with company executives.
- Obtain clarifications on plans and specifications from owners or engineers of records.
- Coordinate and invite suppliers and subcontractors to quote different scopes of work.
- Analyze suppliers and subcontractor pricing input when required.
- Build and strengthen subcontractor and supplier relationships.
- Understand unit cost analyses.
- Assist in pre-bid meetings and bid submittals.
- Keep updated information regarding commodity trade prices.
- Research construction technologies and techniques.
- Maintain continued education in construction: attend engineering conventions, forums, etc.
- Communicate with field personnel (project engineers, superintendents, foremen, fleet managers, etc.) to adjust unit costs as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 13 years of experience in Heavy Civil.
- Must be located in Florida.
- B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management degree.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Possess high work values, integrity, and ethical standards.
- Focus on meeting and exceeding company requirements and expectations.
- Strong organizational skills and verbal/written communication skills.
- Knowledge in bridge and roadway construction.
- Familiarity with foundations, concrete structures, temporary structural systems, underground and utility work, earthwork, signalization, roadway lighting and signing, intelligent transportation systems, and safety standards.
- Knowledgeable in design-build and design-bid-build contracts with FDOT and Turnpike Enterprises.
- Teaching and mentoring skills.
Software Skills:
- 30-Hour OSHA training.
- Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Scheduling software: P6 Primavera.
- Heavy Bid from HCSS.
- Vista Accounting software.
- Bluebeam by REVU.
- AutoCAD-Civil 3D.
- MicroStation.
