Concrete Estimator

The Estimator will perform quantity takeoff and develop costs associated with the labor, material, and equipment required to construct individual projects for competitive bidding purposes. Upon award, this individual will gather the required documents and information to turnover projects to the project management team.
Typical responsibilities, but not limited to, the following are:
- Review projects thoroughly and understand what is being requested for pricing
- Prepare and maintain status of bid documents
- Participate in peer bid review
- Perform quantity take-offs analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects
- Prepare a thorough and comprehensive proposal, including bid forms and supporting documentation as necessary
- Present estimate and participate in bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Work on multiple bids simultaneously and deliver in accordance with deadline objectives
- Assist with RFP review process to create and maintain current bid schedule
- Recognize when there is a need to solicit subcontractor and/or vendor quotes and evaluate them for scope and completeness
- Establish and maintain effective working relationship with clients, subcontractors, etc.
- Attend pre-bid job walks
- Attend pre-award vetting meetings
- Review bid estimate against subcontract/work-order agreements with project executives for contract compliance
- Develop cost coded budgets for estimate for export into accounting software
- After the successful bid at project turnover, meet with the Project Management departments to fully explain job scope, potential areas of attention, and other aspects for the successful transition of the project
- Assist project manager if questions arise throughout the project about the estimate
- Provide cost estimates for project change orders
- Direct, coordinate and provide information and documents to subcontractors
- Attend industry events and represent DHRG to the industry in a professional capacity
- Build and maintain relationships with DHRG clients
- Keep current with the latest estimating technology and techniques
- Implement all applicable Safety Programs and EEO/Affirmative Action Programs
- Communicate with clients to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements, and document these clarifications
- Submit bids and budgets in accordance with bid schedule and client solicited due dates
- Follow-up with prior bid projects and update status to Senior Estimator for Bid Results workbook
- Mentor junior staff; may review the work of other staff members for accuracy and offer suggestions as needed before bid data is consolidated
- Upon award, lead meetings with in-house staff and/or Subcontractors to develop complete scopes and discuss strategy. After the bid, collect and organize all bid information for future reference
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience as a commercial concrete construction estimator
- Flexible, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines
- General knowledge of construction principles and processes
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Working knowledge of estimating technology
- Strong math and analytical skills
- Attention to detail
- Solid interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong computer skills, emphasis on Microsoft Office, & Take-off Software
- Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player
