Tractor Mechanic Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers. Perform annual/systematic 90 day and HM-183 inspections (trailers) on equipment as required. Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
  • Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
  • Adheres to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety
  • Using welding equipment
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Perform HM-183 DOT inspections (P,V,I,K,L,HS,UC,) (EPA-M27)

Tractor Mechanic Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience in repair and service of trailers and medium duty trucks.
  • Required to have demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Required to have demonstrated knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software.
  • Up to 3 years as a fleet mechanic. DOT HM-183 certification, Training or experience. ASE Certification not required but recommended.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, completion of G.E.D Required.

Experience Required
  • 2 - 3 years: Fleet Mechanic
  • 2 - 3 years: Experience welding and repairing pressure vessels and or R -stamp certification
  • 3 - 4 years: DOT HM-183 certification, Training and or experience
  • 3 - 4 years: Knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • 3 - 4 years: Experience in repair and service of trailers and medium duty trucks.
Education Required
  • High School or better
Licenses & Certifications Required
  • HM183 Certification
Preferred
