Overview: Wednesdays, 1/2 day
Compensation: $35-$37/hr.
Job Responsibilities:
Supporting families in developing goals and objectives related to a visual impairment.
- Supporting transitions from early intervention services to preschool, preschool to elementary school, elementary school to middle school, and middle school to high school.
- Assisting in the provision of a coordinated set of activities for transitioning from school to adult life,
- Providing direct instruction, co-teaching, and participating in other collaborative efforts.
- Providing direct instruction in visual efficiency, tactile symbols, braille, assistive technology, auditory skills, social skills, use of near- and low-vision devices, and other areas of the ECC, based on student need.
- Consulting and collaborating with parents, teachers, and other professionals.
- Assisting in modifying the environment to accommodate specific visual needs.
- Modeling appropriate instructional techniques.
- Providing, creating, and assisting in acquiring adapted materials as needed.
- Maintaining current eye reports on each student, when available.
- Recommending adapted strategies for access to the general education curriculum and participation in the school community.
- Building student independence and success in home, community, and school environments.
Requirements:
- Valid teacher's license/certificate with the teaching field of Visually Impaired (PK-12) in state of practice.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong relationship building, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills with school/campus staff, parents, and internal/external stakeholders. Strong interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence.
- Ability to efficiently multitask on a daily basis.
- May require successful completion of communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, CPI and/or behavioral management training or other training as needed.
- The employee shall remain free of alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the ESC.
- Proficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.).
- Ability to preserve confidentiality of student information and records.
- Clearance results as acceptable by applicable regulatory bodies. Criminal justice fingerprint/background (FBI/BCI), and public health clearances
