Job Description:

Must have flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate to other UCSF sites and work shifts (8, 10 or 12 hour), also cover for weekends and holidays and on-call shifts. This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and variable shifts per department needs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform diagnostic sonograms to demonstrate anatomy and pathology for interpretation.
  2. Obtain appropriate patient clinical information from requesting physician and/or service prior to performing exam.
  3. Prepare patient for imaging.
  4. Prepare room and equipment prior to imaging and after completion of exam.
  5. Demonstrate appropriate self-critique of exams to include ability to recognize sub-optimal techniques and equipment malfunctions.
  6. Meet physical requirements to perform all aspects of diagnostic sonography studies in the inpatient as well as outpatient settings, including but not limited to: performing portable exams, transferring and transporting gurney and wheelchair.
  7. Maintain RDMS credential(s) according to the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography's criteria.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Graduate of a formal accredited ultrasound training program in an approved school.
  2. Requires ARDMS credentials in Abdomen and OB/Gyn specialties at minimum.
  3. BLS - Basic Life Support.
  4. Requires (2-5) years UCSF experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, and or equivalent experience in a similar Ultrasound department at UCSF.
  5. New hires who meet criteria of equivalent experience and credentials held must also have equivalent Senior Sonographer skills; the Senior Diagnostic Medical Sonographer title may be granted at the discretion of the Section Chief and Section Supervisor.

Skills and Certifications:

  1. ARDMS in Abdominal and OB/GYN Sonography.
  2. Previous ultrasound experience.
  3. BLS Certification.
  4. Graduated from a CAHEEP accredited ultrasound program.
  5. Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays.
