Consultant & Utilities Auditor

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) seeks a dynamic candidate to join the Internal Audit Division. As a consultant and utility auditor, you will perform financial verification audits of consultant and utility company reimbursement requests and prepare summaries and reports. You will plan, coordinate, and lead audit engagements under the direction of the Audit Director and manager.
Principal Duties
As the UDOT Consultant & Utilities Auditor, you will:
- Conduct audits (i.e., determine the nature, scope, and direction of the audit; review and analyze available information; identify potential issues; schedule audits; prepare audit work papers, etc.).
- Analyze, summarize, and/or review data; report findings, interpret results, and/or make recommendations.
- Write or draft correspondence, reports, documents, and/or other written materials.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
- Gather documentation to support negotiated resolution of non-compliance issues.
Minimum Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must:
- Have an Associate’s degree, or higher, in a related field OR equivalent experience
- Have experience or knowledge in analytics, government contracting requirements, evaluation of performance, and/or reviewing for fraud, waste, and abuse.
- Be able to apply the following knowledge base: applicable state and federal regulations, fiscal data, accounting systems and records, taxes, grant compliance, and contracting requirements.
- Be successful with minimal supervision and someone with a sense of self-motivation in meeting deadlines.
Preferences
Preference may be given those those with at least one of the following:
- Related auditing or accounting experience
- Currently have any of the following auditing credentials or are willing to obtain once employed: CPA, CIA, CFE, CISA, CRMA, CGAP.

- The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
- The ability to arrange things or actions in a particular order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
- The ability to concentrate on a task over time without distraction.
- Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
- Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate, and do not interrupt at inappropriate times.

Here is some information of which you should be aware:
- Risks are found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc. Particular physical demands are not required to perform the work.
- Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
