POSITION SUMMARY

  • The primary purpose of the Regional Medical Director for Clinical Education at the Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine is to develop, implement, and manage the third- and fourth-year clinical rotations for students pursuing the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree at Noorda-COM. This includes utilizing innovative approaches for recruitment, retention and recognition of rotation preceptors and sites. The Regional Medical Director will monitor the progress and performance of students based within his/her region during years three and four of the curriculum. The Regional Medical Director for Clinical Education has the authority to evaluate, establish, and arrange for clinical rotations at hospitals/clinics within the region that are felt to be high quality. This responsibility includes decisions relative to rotation schedules, preceptors, services, etc. This position includes an adjunct faculty appointment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent Noorda-COM within the region, advocate for Noorda-COM and Noorda-COM's curriculum, and represent the school's position on various issues. Serve as the liaison between Noorda-COM and clinical faculty, clinical departments, hospital and clinic administration. Develop strong hospital and ambulatory rotations, including training sites for required rotations and electives. Develop strong clinical teaching sites for years 3 and 4 students and collaborate with Noorda-COM's Office of Clinical Education to develop strong clinical teaching sites for interns, residents, and fellows. Assist and advise students as needed regarding matters such as academic performance, professionalism, personal issues, career plans, etc. Be a mentor for students, interns and residents. Maintains and processes records documenting these interactions. The Regional Medical Director for Clinical Education has the authority and responsibility to enforce the academic policies and procedures of Noorda-COM in their respective region.
  • In the event that the Regional Medical Director for Clinical Education determines that a student may constitute a threat to the welfare of himself/herself, fellow students, staff, or patients, s/he may recommend suspending the student or placing the student on leave.
  • Attend to other related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs or the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or Medical Doctor (MD) degree. Residency trained and Board Certification. Must be able to travel within the assigned region.

Experience: Four to five years of professional medical experience or administration experience in medical education.
