This position will be based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Washington, D.C. FIRE operates on a hybrid work schedule that allows for a mix of in-the-office and remote work for eligible employees.

About FIRE:

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression’s mission is to defend and sustain the individual rights of all Americans to free speech and free thought — the most essential qualities of liberty. FIRE educates Americans about the importance of these inalienable rights, promotes a culture of respect for these rights, and provides the means to preserve them.

Position Description:

FIRE is seeking an entrepreneurial Director of Video with 8 or more years of experience to oversee and execute a cohesive strategy and vision for video content that tells FIRE’s story across various platforms and galvanizes more Americans to join our fast-growing free speech movement. The Director of Video supervises the in-house video team, while also collaborating with the wider Communications department and programs across FIRE, specifically our Litigation, Rapid Response, Public Advocacy, and Campus Rights Advocacy teams.

  • Develop and execute a creative vision and strategy for video content that aligns with FIRE’s mission and drives engagement with, and enthusiasm for, the mission
  • Lead the video team ensuring smooth workflows and collaboration across the Communications department and the organization
  • Oversee end-to-end production, from pre-production (concept development, storyboarding) to production (directing on-camera talent and team members), to post-production (editing, sound, and color correction)
  • Mentor and develop the video team to enhance their technical and storytelling skills
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in video production and social media
  • Develop innovative video content optimized for various platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn)
  • Ensure content is engaging, high-quality, and reflective of current social media trends to engage and educate viewers about their free speech rights and drive enthusiasm for FIRE and our mission
  • Manage multiple video projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and staying within budget
  • Collaborate with digital marketing, social media marketing, and design teams to plan and coordinate content production across multiple social media channels, ensure brand consistency, and set performance goals.
  • Monitor relevant performance metrics across platforms and adjust strategy to focus on what works in order to meet or exceed relevant key performance indicators
  • Oversee hiring and training of new video team members and manage their ongoing performance
  • Manage and allocate the video production budget efficiently, balancing quality with cost-effectiveness

This position involves moderate travel. Moderate work on weekends and evenings should be expected.

The expected start date for this position is as soon as possible.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have an exceptional work ethic and the ability to lead a small team and collaborate with colleagues across the organization. Most importantly, the candidate must demonstrate a knowledge and passion for FIRE’s mission and an ability to articulate that passion in a way that will make others enthusiastic about our cause. A candidate must also be able to demonstrate:

  • At least 8 years of experience as a video director or senior video producer in a fast-paced, creative environment
  • Strong knowledge of free speech philosophy, law, and trends
  • Ability to articulate FIRE’s mission and advocacy through video to familiar and unfamiliar audiences
  • Expertise in video production, including pre-production planning, shooting, editing, and post-production
  • Superb news and storytelling instincts, with an emphasis on reaching younger audiences
  • Ability to weigh tradeoffs and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to think strategically, propose new ideas, and spot opportunities for video content
  • Stay current with new and emerging video trends across platforms
  • Ability to make difficult decisions while weighing tradeoffs
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to engage with leadership and stakeholders
  • The ability to manage a team and assess the individual performance of the members
  • Experience in managing budgets and resources
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
