Tech Lead Greater San Francisco Area
At Workhelix, our ambition is to lead the new category of Business Transformation Management (BTM), helping organizations adopt technologies like Generative AI. We offer two SaaS products: one for planning GenAI initiatives using workforce data, and another for monitoring ROI with advanced research methodologies. We have pioneered a task-scoring method to identify top GenAI opportunities, ensuring clear, data-driven deployment strategies. Our ROI monitoring suite applies cutting-edge economics to provide accurate, ongoing insights into the impact of GenAI implementations. Renowned AI and Economics thinkers including Andrew Ng, and cofounders Andy McAfee and Erik Brynjolfsson stand proudly behind our mission.
We maintain a culture established on four key principles: reliance on scientific evidence and debates rather than personal judgment and experience; embracing autonomy with alignment to prevent bureaucracy; encouraging speed, iteration, and rapid feedback over exhaustive planning; and fostering open, good faith discussions, allowing criticism to be delivered and received in an egalitarian environment.
Role Summary:This is an incredible opportunity to not only build an engineering team at a fast growing startup, but be at the forefront of the GenAI revolution. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has worked as a full-stack engineer and is currently an engineering manager at their organization.
The Tech Lead will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end technical execution of our software development efforts, ensuring that our products are built to scale, meet enterprise standards, and are secure. This individual will lead and mentor the engineering team, shape technical strategy, own processes, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g. Product, Customer Success) to deliver high-quality software that aligns with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Technical Oversight:- Understand and oversee all technical aspects of the company’s software products to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
- Lead the engineering team to ensure that no technical elements are overlooked or improperly executed.
- Provide technical guidance and unblock engineers on architecture, programming questions, and best practices.
- Contribute hands-on code with proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Drive the adoption of industry best practices for building scalable enterprise software.
- Make informed decisions about tech debt, balancing the need to scale with thoughtful technical trade-offs.
- Establish robust DevOps processes and manage the company’s security posture, ensuring compliance with enterprise-level requirements, particularly for F500 clients.
- Participate in recruiting, hiring, and scaling a high-performing engineering team within budget constraints.
- Develop the team's capabilities through mentorship, OKR setting, and professional development, driving them toward defined technical and business goals.
- Work closely with the Head of Product to define sprints, estimation, and agile processes.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate complex technical problems into easily digestible plans.
- Work closely with the data science team to understand and implement research outputs into the software architecture.
- Oversee infrastructure management, with strong familiarity with AWS and a bonus for GCP knowledge.
- Lead the development and implementation of scalable, secure cloud infrastructure to support enterprise-grade products.
- Own incident SLAs and manage the incident reporting process, ensuring timely and effective resolutions.
- Establish and scale technical processes, including on-call rotations, code reviews, and standard release cycles.
- 7+ years of full-stack development experience, with at least 3+ years in a technical leadership role with ownership over engineering roadmap and priorities.
- Proven track record of delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance software solutions.
- Previous experience working in a startup and building scalable enterprise software.
- Strong knowledge in Python and SQL.
- Have a strong understanding of data science principles including A/B testing, statistics, and basic machine learning concepts. Advanced knowledge is a plus.
- Experience scaling engineering teams, developing processes, and managing incident SLAs.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS is required, GCP is a plus).
- Familiarity with DevOps, security best practices, and handling enterprise customer requirements.
- Strong communicator capable of breaking down complex technical problems for non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working with or leading teams involved in data science and machine learning integration.
- Proficiency in advanced data science concepts or enthusiasm to grow in this area.
- Proficiency in React.
- Located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What You’ll Get:
- Competitive compensation package and benefits.
- Chance to learn and collaborate with some of the most famous researchers in the AI and digital economy space: Andrew Ng, Erik Brynjolfsson, Andy McAfee, and Daniel Rock.
- The unique opportunity to help build a company, culture, and products from the ground up with a team that values healthy working practices.
- Flexibility to work fully remote, with offsites on a quarterly basis for team gatherings.
- A high-trust, high-autonomy work environment.
