Our Behavioral Health Services programs provide residential and outpatient treatment for those struggling with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders.
The Detox/Addictions Nurse is a critical member of our dedicated healthcare team. In this role, you will play a vital role in assessing, planning, and providing care to individuals undergoing detoxification from substances. Your expertise in medical-surgical nursing will be essential in addressing the complex medical needs of patients during their detoxification process.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough physical and psychological assessments of patients upon admission to the detoxification unit.
- Monitor vital signs, withdrawal symptoms, and overall patient condition, and respond promptly to any changes or emergent situations.
- Utilize your medical-surgical knowledge to identify and manage co-occurring medical conditions that may impact the detox process.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and manage medical issues.
- Implement evidence-based nursing interventions to ensure patient safety, comfort, and well-being during the detoxification process.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families about the detox process and potential complications.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, therapists, social workers, and counselors, to develop individualized detox plans for patients.
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate care, report patient progress, and address any concerns.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, medications administered, and patient responses.
- Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards related to patient confidentiality and record-keeping.
Education and Training:
- Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in medical-surgical nursing and substance detoxification.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills.
Quality Improvement:
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives by participating in performance improvement activities and suggesting process enhancements.
Qualifications:
- Valid and current registered nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
- Experience in addiction or detox settings is highly desirable.
- Certification in addiction nursing or related field is a plus.
- Strong understanding of medical-surgical principles, including the management of co-occurring medical conditions.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to handle high-stress situations and provide compassionate care.
- Proficiency in paper, electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical documentation.
- Dedication to maintaining patient confidentiality and upholding ethical standards.
- Positive attitude and passion for working with patients with substance-use disorder.
Compensation : Hourly rates tend to range from $50 to $55 per hour. Shifts will include nights, weekends and holidays.
