IDEXX is seeking an experienced individual to lead Software Delivery in the US and EU as we continue to transform and modernize the IDEXX Veterinary Software portfolio. The ideal candidate will work with the Vice President of Software Engineering to deliver modern SaaS solutions, all focused on providing veterinary professionals with smart, elegant solutions that enhance the health and wellbeing of animals across the globe.

The portfolio includes three Patient Information Management Systems (PIMS), Client workflow/Communications, Wellness Plan Management, Business Intelligence and Reporting, Referral Management, and Payment Services serving customers across North America, Europe, and Australasia. The offerings span the entire Software Product lifecycle; from "innovation" to "sunset".

The organization is comprised of approximately 130 engineering resources in the US and Europe. The technology stack is non-homogenous, ranging from modern "born in the cloud" solutions to classic client-server offerings. A portion of the products were a result of acquisitions, while others were internally developed. All these products must also be integrated to create a consistent, seamless experience for our customers.

This role will be based out of our HQ in Westbrook, Maine, and we are open to assisting with relocation.

IDEXX Veterinary Software encompasses IDEXX's portfolio of software products. These include practise management solutions ezyVet, Neo and Animana, client engagement platform Vello as well as other products such as VetConnectPlus and Vet Radar. A bit more about the role, you will:
  1. Lead a team of circa eight direct reports and a total staff of 131 (105 USA, 26 Netherlands)
  2. Contribute to the development of the engineering department's strategy and ensure its execution in the US and EU, setting clear goals and objectives to support the company's business plan and product roadmap
  3. Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, and other departments to ensure seamless integration and alignment across all phases of product development
  4. Ensure business results are achieved, client expectations are fulfilled, and applications/systems are performing to support all aspects of service delivery
  5. Serve as a trusted resource for product and commercial partners by providing knowledge and expertise in support of their key objectives
  6. Foster innovation within the engineering teams to develop new features, improve product performance, and enhance user experience
  7. Manage your budget effectively, optimizing resource allocation and making strategic hires to fill key skill gaps
  8. Establish and maintain a scalable and efficient development process that enables rapid iteration and delivery of features
  9. Promote a culture of continuous learning and development within the engineering team, encouraging knowledge sharing and professional growth
  10. Ensure the capture of key software development metrics related to delivery, quality and stability; set standards for disaster recovery and business continuity
  11. Establish IDEXX as a destination for high-performing, innovative software professionals
So what are we looking for?
  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role managing large, distributed engineering teams
  3. Strong technical acumen, with the ability to drive technical decisions and strategy by leveraging one's own experience and that of subject matter experts
  4. Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with a proven ability to motivate, mentor, and manage engineering teams of varying levels of expertise, responsibility, regionality, culture and employment models
  5. Demonstrated experience in leading the development and delivery of large-scale SaaS products in a fast-paced, agile environment
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with other departments and stakeholders across different cultures and time zones
  7. Familiarity with modern technologies, software development tools, and methodologies
