Description

Our client is looking to hire a Construction Estimator to join their team in San Diego, CA . The candidate will be exposed to:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Professionally represent our client and effectively support Company strategic initiatives.

  5. Cultivate new and existing business relationships by engaging in client pursuits, RFP's, and interviews; positively promote Company to external business partners and contacts.
  6. Establish and foster positive long-term relationships with all business partners including owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  7. Cultivate and manage relationships with new and existing clients; provide clients with accurate estimates and value engineering.
  8. Assume single responsibility for large, complex projects; assume overall responsibility for the preconstruction stage of each project.
  9. Identify tasks to be accomplished in order to satisfy contractual requirements.
  10. Ensure estimates, schedules, constructability reviews, value engineering efforts, cost report planning, and purchase planning efforts and documents meet detail, schedule, and quality requirements.
  11. Provide overall Preconstruction effort oversight and show ability to lead a project team and project solutions.
  12. Manage estimating process through initial advertising/prequalification and solicitation of subcontractors, bid evaluation process, and award.
  13. Effectively schedule complete Preconstruction effort including all estimate milestones, durations, and identifying long lead items and other needs.
  14. Interface with Owner, Architect/Engineers, and subcontractors to resolve technical matters during design or prebid, and provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
  15. Organize departmental team so that each estimator involved knows responsibilities and deadlines.
  16. Mentor/teach junior estimators all aspects of the preconstruction process.
  17. Prepare estimates for all stages of design from Conceptual through Final Construction Documents (Design/Build, Guaranteed Maximum Price, and Hard Bid diversity).
  18. Perform value engineering and life-cycle costing.
  19. Develop and write all bid packages and subcontractor scopes of work.
  20. Participate with the Project Manager in the award of subcontracts and write all subcontracts before turning over to the construction team.
  21. Demonstrate exceptional presentation and sales skills while serving on RFP/Interview teams.
  22. Other duties as assigned.
  23. Use safety equipment as prescribed by the company to ensure safety on the job site.
  24. As a safety-sensitive position, complete adherence to alcohol and drug use policies set by the company.
  25. In-person, predictable attendance at assigned location.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field.
  2. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of Construction Management/General Contractor experience.
  3. Verifiable work references demonstrating exceptional accomplishments, leadership, and communication skills.

SKILLS

  1. Solid computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel.
  2. Proficient in the use of estimating software.
  3. Able to read drawings and specifications.
  4. Strong understanding of commercial construction industry practices and standards.
  5. Knowledge of construction costs, project budgeting, vendor selection, client proposals, and owner/architect/general contractor industry expertise.
  6. Strong customer service orientation.
  7. Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and planning skills.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
