As the chief student success officer of the campus, the Vice Chancellor for Student Success provides leadership that enhances the campus’ student support and development services, improves cross-functional teamwork in support of student success, retention and completion, educational attainment, and establishes additional progressive strategies for advancing continuous quality improvement efforts in an environment that promotes and values diversity and recognizes the various needs and services required for a diverse student body.


The Vice Chancellor for Student Success will be a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet with the purpose of providing leadership that aligns with the College’s core values and implements strategies in order to meet the needs of a diverse community and student body on campus. This position promotes diversity, integrity, community engagement, innovation, and excellence in student affairs. This position is accountable to perform statewide responsibilities to maintain consistent statewide student support services, policies, and practices. This position will work closely with Systems Office leadership to establish strategies coordinated with statewide efforts in key areas of focus (recruitment, enrollment, retention, completion, and student success).


This position will work closely with the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services in the key areas that focus and strategic enrollment management best practices, particularly in the area of student retention and completion.


Responsibilities:
  1. Provides vision, leadership, coaching, and direction to all student success staff (academic advising, student life, career development, disability support services, mentoring and coaching, wrap around services, etc.) for the delivery of quality student development and success initiatives, including strategic enrollment management initiatives that support persistence, retention, and completion.
  2. Leads the design, implementation, and assessment of a student success plan to successfully meet the campus-level metrics for student retention and completion.
  3. Plans, organizes, and administers all student development programs and services in concert with the College’s mission, purposes, and resources with special emphasis on student retention, completion, and student success goals.
  4. Works collaboratively with the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive enrollment management plan which includes recruitment and outreach initiatives, student success strategies, and program completion for graduates entering the workforce or transferring to a four-year institution.
  5. Provides campus leadership that supports the academic mission of the College, fosters student development, and promotes collaboration among multiple departments through extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
  6. Serves as the Campus advocate for students and ensures students’ voices are heard and given value within the institution.
  7. Provides leadership and vision to ensure successful delivery of services in the functional areas of student support services, which include advising, Ivy+ Career Link, Adult Strategies, judicial affairs and Title IX, student life, leadership and Talent development, wrap around services, mentoring and coaching, and other non-instructional programs and services.
  8. Adheres to the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) guidelines.
  9. Collaborates and develops an inclusive and safe environment that promotes and values diversity with other campus leaders and Systems Office staff.
  10. Collaborates with campus leaders and System Office to lead professional development training opportunities for student success staff and other campus employees to assist in meeting retention and completion campus metrics.
  11. Collaborates with campus leaders and System Office to ensure compliance, including preparing and submitting reports, with College policies, procedures, and requirements established by legal statutes, board policies, and administrative decisions; interprets and enforces external agencies regulations, policies, and practices (Department of Education Title IV, FERPA, Clery Act, Title IX, etc.).
  12. Serves on local and statewide committees associated with job functions, or representing the College as needed.
  13. Provides real-time persistence and retention reports consistent with those shared with college leadership at other campuses and Systems Offices.
  14. Serve as the Campus’ Chief Conduct Officer for personal misconduct.
  15. As a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet, assures assessment of functional area needs, investigates and develops alternative strategies, establishes priorities and goals, recommends implementation activities, and evaluates progress.
  16. Oversees the development and administration of budgets for each functional area, and determines priorities for expenditures.
  17. Serves as a model for strong leadership, develops and supports the Campus culture of team collaboration and commitment to delivering high quality services and outcomes by being student- and employee-centered.
  18. Builds and sustains a process-managed organization and culture that delivers measurable value for the organization by targeting efficiency and cost optimization in functional areas.
  19. Collaborates with other cabinet members to implement the College strategic plan across the campus service area.
  20. Executes strategic initiatives and resource allocation at a local level to achieve college-wide and campus-level metrics.
  21. Creates and maintains an environment where planning, development, and delivery of services for students occur in a creative and effective manner that fosters cultural and global awareness.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.


Minimum Requirements:
  1. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in student personnel, counseling, adult or higher education, or related discipline is required. A doctorate is preferred.
  2. Three to five years of progressive leadership experience in a comprehensive student affairs unit is required.
  3. Seven to ten years of progressively responsible student affairs experience in a regionally accredited higher education institution is preferred.
  4. Community college experience is desired.
  5. Demonstrated project management skills to oversee several projects concurrently and meet deadlines effectively.
  6. Knowledge of managing student related data and reporting.
  7. Must be adept at resolving individual and group conflicts.
  8. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  9. Proven ability to identify key issues and to carry forward an idea or project from conception to execution.
  10. Track record of thinking conceptually and mastering complex subject matter quickly.
  11. Good judgment, discretion, tact and the ability to work easily with senior leaders within the higher education, charitable, government, and business sectors.
  12. Ability to partner well with colleagues both in and outside of the organization.
  13. Ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.
