The Take Charge Safety Director:

Proactively Reduce EMR:

  • Strategic Planning: Manage and implement the company's Safety Strategic Plan.
  • Risk Control: Participate in all SCG Risk Control meetings, calls, and workshops.
  • Safety Surveys: Perform pre-job site safety surveys to identify potential hazards or unsafe conditions that employees may be exposed to.
  • Activity Suspension: Order suspension of activities posing a threat to workers and other individuals.

Continuously Improve Safety Knowledge through Training:

  • Training Calendar: Develop an annual safety training calendar.
  • Internal Training: Conduct internal training sessions for OSHA 10-hour, competent person, trenching and shoring, and other relevant topics.
  • Third-Party Training: Coordinate 3rd party training sessions as needed.
  • Attendance Tracking: Track training attendance and needs.

Support Field Personnel and Create Company-Wide Buy-In:

  • Accident Investigations: Perform GL, equipment, auto, and workers’ comp accident investigations.
  • Job-Site Visits: Perform routine job-site visits for quality assurance regarding job safety and to create open lines of communication with field employees.
  • Safety Meetings: Monitor supervisors' weekly safety meetings and conduct the safety meeting every 3rd week of the month.
  • Operations Meetings: Attend operations meetings to coordinate jobsite safety with project managers/supervisors.
  • Medical Coordination: Arrange for employee physical examinations, first aid, and other medical attention as required.
  • Safety Committee: Coordinate and actively participate in the company’s Safety Committee.
  • Emergency Plan: Manage and implement the company's Emergency Plan.
  • Safety Awards Program: Coordinate and manage the company’s Safety Awards Program.

Handles Claims Management:

  • Insurance Coordination: Manage the company’s captive insurance for GL, Workers Compensation, and Auto claims, and assist in coordination with insurance groups/agencies.
  • Claims Management: Manage insurance claims and monitor the activity of claims adjusters and legal teams.

Optimal Compliance for Entire Durr Team (Employees, Subs, Public):

  • OSHA Standards: Stay up-to-date on the most recent OSHA standards to ensure the company's adherence to OSHA Safety Guidelines.
  • OSHA Documentation: Monitor filing of any/all OSHA-related documents.
  • Subcontractor Safety: Create and monitor subcontractors' safety standards and requirements.
  • Chemical Storage: Monitor the filing of the Tier II application with DEQ regarding on-site chemicals/combustibles storage.
  • Spill Control Program: Monitor the company’s adherence to Spill Control Program guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Hazard Identification: Ability to identify job hazards to prevent potential incidents.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a Safety Manager in a Construction, Industrial, Engineering, and/or Construction Management Firm or related field preferred.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Activity Levels: Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lifting: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Vision: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Exposure: Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
