Kaiser Permanente Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Senior - Wailuku, Hawaii

Performs diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures and trains or orients staff members as assigned.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Selecting proper transducer frequency and diameter for performance of exams.
  2. Utilizing ancillary devices to obtain hard copy records of exams.
  3. Using PACS (Picture Archive and Communications System) and Radiology Information System.
  4. Recognizing electronic equipment limitations and the significance of all structures visualized sonographically.
  5. Determining artifacts as well as normal or abnormal anatomy.
  6. Differentiating normal and pathological processes and extending the scope of studies appropriate to comprehensive final study.
  7. Deviating from normal techniques when necessary for a wider latitude of visualization.
  8. Collaborating with referring physicians and contributing technical and professional knowledge to final diagnostic impressions or reports.
  9. Providing technical and nursing aid for surgical biopsy and aspiration procedures.
  10. Performing calibrations and adjustments of ultrasound equipment.
  11. Training and orienting other staff sonographers as directed.
  12. Correlating patients' clinical history with tests to be performed.
  13. Consulting with radiologists or supervising physicians after reviewing data to determine appropriate ultrasound procedures.
  14. Remaining knowledgeable and current regarding technological advances in the field of diagnostic medical sonography.
  15. Promoting and maintaining inter-and intra-departmental working relations.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum two (2) years of post-graduate experience, including experience or successful completion of a training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in the area of specialty, if applicable.

Education: Graduate from an approved ultrasound training program recognized by CAHEA, or equivalent related experience.

License, Certification, Registration:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association

Additional Requirements:

Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, teamwork, and written communication.
