The Health Connector is seeking a motivated, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented individual to assist with general accounting and financial statement close activities. The ideal candidate should have a strong knowledge of accounting principles, excellent organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team environment. The Senior Staff Accountant will report to the Health Connector’s Manager of Accounting.

Key Responsibilities Include
  1. Prepare monthly journal entries including, but not limited to, cash receipts/disbursements, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation, and recording and adjusting of reclassification journal entries, if necessary.
  2. Reconcile cash for Non-Group and SHOP premium billing activity.
  3. Prepare and maintain monthly premium billing activity schedule for the Health Connector for Business (Small Group) program, which includes, but is not limited to, processing refunds, verifying premium cash receipts, and preparing wire transfer payments to the Health Plans.
  4. Perform general ledger account analysis, including reconciling financial discrepancies and analyzing account activity.
  5. Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations and perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  6. Prepare monthly CCTF funding request.
  7. Provide payroll processing support as needed.
  8. Provide accounts payable support as needed.
  9. Maintain required records, reports, and files in an organized manner.
  10. Prepare monthly list of Beyond Plan Year refunds per refund schedule.
  11. Assist with the preparation of the monthly financial statements and perform other month-end close activities.
  12. Coordinate with the finance team regarding monthly accruals based on budget and investigate monthly income and expense fluctuations and budget versus actual variances.
  13. Maintain and update policies and procedures documentation for the Accounting department.
  14. Maintain accounting controls by following policies and procedures; complying with federal and state requirements.
  15. Play a major role in the annual financial audit, including the preparation of audit schedules.
  16. Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis and other duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 3 – 5 years experience.
  2. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  3. Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  4. Excellent analytic and communication skills.
  5. Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behavior toward others and a demonstrated sense of responsibility and commitment.
  6. Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including possessing advanced Excel skills.
  7. Familiarity with ADP or similar payroll software.
  8. Familiarity with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software.
  9. Strong organizational and document management skills, ability to organize and manage electronic documents so the Health Connector can efficiently store, retrieve and share documents as needed.
  10. Fundamental knowledge of US GAAP and standard business practices.
  11. All Health Connector employees are required to provide satisfactory proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  12. The Health Connector is operating on a hybrid work arrangement with 2 days in the office in downtown Boston and 3 days working from home.
  13. Employee may be requested to work an extended day and weekends to meet deadlines.
