Responsibilities:

  1. Works with project manager and clients
  2. Develops scopes of work for I&C systems, networks, and projects
  3. Leads I&C design teams for medium and large projects
  4. Designs PLC SCADA networks for medium and large systems
  5. Specifies industrial fiber optic networks, systems, and components
  6. Designs SCADA network block diagrams
  7. Selects instrumentation
  8. Develops P&IDs
  9. Develops control strategies
  10. Designs control panel layouts
  11. Prepares ISA data sheets and instrument sites
  12. Develops input/output point lists
  13. Reviews submittals
  14. Prepares specifications for instruments, computers, networking equipment, PLCs, and associated components
  15. Develops preliminary and final construction cost estimates for I&C
  16. Meets with clients for design-related workshops, including instrument preferences, HMI graphics design, and standard development
  17. Designs radio telemetry SCADA systems using microwave, spread spectrum, licensed MAS, cellular, or other radio technologies
  18. Mentors and trains Staff Instrumentation Engineers
  19. Prepares technical memorandums and reports
  20. Manages the instrumentation portion of medium to large-sized instrumentation and control projects for water and wastewater treatment facilities
  21. Conducts quality management reviews of instrumentation and control designs
  22. Participates in continuing editing and development of I&C master specifications
  23. Develops project-specific specifications for unusual or unique instrumentation applications
  24. Prioritizes and balances competing project demands and conflicting project requirements
  25. Manages other instrumentation and control engineers and CADD technicians to effectively complete work with attention to detail
  26. Delegates tasks to others and follows up on completion and quality of work
  27. Identifies and consults with others on solutions to unusual, difficult, or complex tasks
  28. Effectively participates in client contacts and business development efforts
  29. Identifies alternatives, evaluates each, and determines appropriate actions to move forward
  30. Makes solid and implementable decisions in a timely manner
  31. Reduces complex aspects of instrumentation and control engineering to terms understandable to others

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Instrumentation and Control Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or Chemical Engineering
  2. 10-15 years experience in instrumentation and control systems in water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, and associated facilities
  3. Registration as a Professional Engineer
  4. Expert in the design of industrial instrumentation and control systems, selection and specification of instruments, and design of industrial communication networks for water and wastewater facilities
  5. Expert in developing, reading, and understanding P&IDs and control schematics
  6. Expert in design and development of industrial communication control networks
  7. Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision on medium to large instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities
  8. Understands projects at the conceptual level, and develops corresponding instrumentation and control engineering scope of work, budget, and schedule
  9. Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine or moderately complex tasks
  10. Ability to simultaneously think beyond past approaches and propose practical approaches to instrumentation and control design and construction
  11. Listens and understands the concerns and needs of other project team members
  12. Ability to control behavior under situations involving pressure, conflict, and uncertainty
  13. Communicate clearly and concisely in speech, writing, and contract documents
  14. Presents communications in an organized fashion and with appropriate level of detail
  15. Positively influences both peers and subordinates to move toward overall project goals

Pay Range:
$150,000 to $180,000 annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
