The AWS Hardware Engineering team is driving rapid innovation in the server and storage infrastructure used by Amazon Web Services. Our designs are fundamentally changing the data center, providing operational and financial benefits that are critical to the success of the AWS business and its millions of customers. Our Software Engineers solve challenging technology problems, and take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry.
We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer to build and operate next generation storage solution development for AWS world scale compute and storage solutions. The ideal candidate for this role will be an innovative, hands-on leader seasoned in building and leading software teams developing large-scale telemetry and real-time monitoring systems with demonstrated experience at building solutions using AWS public cloud services.
As a Sr. SDE in this team, you will be leading a team of highly motivated software developers that thrive on solving challenging problems with innovative solutions. The team couples software and firmware skill-sets with storage and scalable software engineering disciplines to solve real world data storage problems. You would lead a team building, validating, and operating software solutions in diverse technology domains from embedded software platforms to large-scale distributed software systems in Java, C/C++, Python, and other languages using proprietary and open source technologies and Amazon services alike. You are highly organized, data-driven, have a passion for recruiting, leading and developing world-class engineering talent, and executing projects on aggressive timelines.
You will collaborate with internal and external development teams (architecture, hardware, validation, software services). You will establish strategic vision and drive tactical execution in defining and delivering new products and services. What you will do:You will build and lead a team building large-scale monitoring and real-time telemetry systems for operating an at-scale storage platform, including designing and building automation, tooling and data analytics solutions. You will build and operate scalable storage solutions and associated operational infrastructure to automate monitoring and analysis services. You will work closely with other AWS software teams to tailor and operate storage solutions for the AWS environment.
Key job responsibilities- Work backward from customer input to build and drive product roadmap
- Drive software development for the team, leading design reviews, driving code-reviews, delivering bar-raising software
- Innovate on architecture and drive feature design details, looking to invent and simplify and raise the bar on resilience and scalability
- Drive operational excellence and build operational excellence into product development practices
- Mentor and grow the organization to deliver the product roadmap
Sprint ceremonies, Ops Review, Design Review, Roadmap delivery, Leadership review and product update, 1:1's with team, peers, customers.
About the teamNitro SSD is an AWS strategic initiative to improve customer experience by increasing storage availability, reducing SSD related operations, improving device security, and enabling uniform customer experience with transparent multi-sourcing of NAND. We achieve this through software and hardware design ownership, while multi-sourcing NAND from memory suppliers. Nitro SSD brings differentiated features, such as Torn-Write-Prevention, that drive customer value, reducing their infrastructure spend, while improving performance for their database workloads as an example.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
