Seattle WA United States Amazon Full time

Do you want to solve business challenges through innovative technology? Do you enjoy working on cutting-edge, scalable services technology in a team environment? Do you like working on industry-defining projects that move the needle?

At Amazon, we hire the best minds in technology to innovate and build on behalf of our customers. The intense focus we have on our customers is why we are one of the world’s most beloved brands – customer obsession is part of our company DNA. Our Software Development Engineers (SDEs) use cutting-edge technology to solve complex problems and get to see the impact of their work first-hand.

The challenges SDEs solve for at Amazon are big and impact millions of customers, sellers, and products around the world. We’re looking for individuals who are excited by the idea of creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity and the pace of a company whose ship cycles are measured in weeks, not years.

The AWS Intelligent Operations team owns and operates highly scalable, highly available distributed systems that are used by all AWS customers and internal service teams alike. We are pioneers in areas such as identity, access management, security and providing massively scaled, distributed platform capabilities to all of AWS. We enable our customers to control and secure the most sensitive data on the internet. We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need brilliant engineering leaders to work with us on this new initiative

We are looking for software engineers who are technically very strong with deep knowledge in web services, backend storage design, and distributed systems. The ideal candidate takes pride in tackling challenges, excels at working in an agile environment, and gets excited about owning the architecture of a set of critical platform services that serve customers globally every second of every day.

You will provide technical leadership to the team that owns design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operation of new global distributed systems that are core to all of AWS.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Architecture, design, code ownership for long-term product strategy for AWS Authentication and Authorization services
  2. Development and operation of low-latency, high-availability Authentication and Authorization services
  3. Ownership and continuous improvement of all operational metrics and automation tools for your team’s software
  4. Executing against project plans and delivery commitments

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS.

We value work-life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why we strive for flexibility as part of our working culture.

Inclusive Team Culture

Here at AWS, it’s in our nature to learn and be curious. Our employee-led affinity groups foster a culture of inclusion that empower us to be proud of our differences.

Key Job Responsibilities

You will build, own, and operate foundational AWS services in the critical path of billions of API requests per-day. You'll need to be able to design and build extremely scalable services, capable of single digit millisecond latency. You'll release functionality used by every AWS service and their customers.

A Day in the Life

You’ll contribute to the resource property store allowing customers to authorize who can do what, organize their resources, and provide crisp usage and auditing reports across the billions of resources customers depend on. You'll solve problems at a scale that have never been tackled before.

About the Team

We’re a part of AWS Intelligent Operations organization and, as a member of the AWS Tagging team, you’ll contribute to one of a handful of customer facing features every AWS service is required to support.

Minimum Requirements
  1. 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  2. 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience
  3. Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  4. 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  5. Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
