JOB SUMMARY

Under the general clinical supervision of the assigned dentist the dental hygienist provides support to facilitate the assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, and treatment of our patients. Additionally the dental hygienist assists in the supervision of dental hygiene students rotating at the dental office.


DUTIES PERFORMED
  • Performs clinical examination of teeth and surrounding tissues and records findings and treatment plan in electronic dental record.
  • Removes hard and soft deposits and stains from teeth.
  • Applies fluoride varnish. Applies pit and fissure sealant
  • Provides patient instruction and counseling regarding oral hygiene and proper nutrition and dietary issues.
  • Exposes radiographs and files in digital patient database.
  • Consistently performs correct periodontal charting, and gives correct recommendations and treatment plans to periodontal patients.
  • Performs duties of expanded duty dental assistant when required.
  • Ensures work area is kept safe, clean and well organized with an adequate amount of supplies.
  • Maintains a cooperative and professional working environment with co-workers and patients.
  • Abides by all OSHA, EPA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement activities of the organization.
  • Must hold all patient Protected Health Information (PHI) other patient personal information and agency information in confidence, in accordance with the Employee Confidentiality Statement, which I have read, understand and signed.
  • Actively participate in and comply with all aspects of our
  • Corporate Compliance Program, follow the Program Code of Conduct and obey all relevant laws, statutes, regulations and requirements applicable to Medicaid, Medicare and other State and Federal health care programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Dental Hygienist course and radiography certificate.


Work Experience
  • SC licensure as a Dental Hygienist.
  • One year experience working as a Dental Hygienist is required
  • Must be computer literate and have experience using dental electronic record systems.
  • Experience using digital radiography system.

  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and sometimes confidential situations, and demonstrate poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Must possess ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees and visitors.
  • Must have the ability to maintain integrity, confidentiality, and work under pressure to meet the clinic requirements and satisfy the patients.
