Organization: DNA Molecular Genetics
Job Summary: Performs routine and complex clinical pathology testing and instrument management of laboratory services. Responsible to accurately record results and assure timely delivery of results. Has the authority, responsibility and accountability for the accurate performance of laboratory test methodologies. These tests are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and the evaluation of the patient's response to treatment. Applies clinical knowledge to achieve accurate clinical test results which leads to quality patient care outcomes.
The VUMC Molecular Diagnostics Department is in need of a Medical Lab Scientist 2 to join the team at our new MetroCenter location This position is eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.
Department Summary: Our new 110,000-square-foot diagnostic core laboratory supports the needs of Vanderbilt University Medical Center's inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, regional hospitals, and extramural practice customers. Located five miles north of the 21st Avenue Nashville campus, the laboratory has expanded capacity to bring more testing to Vanderbilt, deploy innovative technology, improve patient care, and enhance team collaboration.
Shift: Monday - Friday - split 1st/2nd shift with rotational coverage on holidays and as needed weekend coverage. Shift times are 9:00 or 9:30 AM - 5:30 or 6:00 PM.
Sign-On Bonus Requirements: The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months. The sign-on bonus is only available for full-time positions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides patient-focused care in a clinical setting through the accurate performance of routine and complex tests through the pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic stages.
- Performs qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures, including reagent preparation and appropriate quality control, according to required protocols, with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
- Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.

Technical Capabilities:
- Data Analysis (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate data analysis in practical data analysis applications of moderate difficulty.
- Quality Assurance (Novice): Has provided continuous analysis and evaluation of assignment work processes, constantly striving for improvement.
- Equipment Maintenance (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to maintain equipment, products, or systems in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
- Diagnostic Testing (Novice): Demonstrates proficiency of diagnostic testing in practical applications.
- Mentoring & Coaching (Novice): Constructively trains and mentors others by providing positive direction and feedback.
