Senior Mechanical Engineer (8+ Years Experience)

With an ability to provide MEP design services to sectors such as Healthcare, Public, Defense, Airport, High Rise, Life Sciences, Commercial Office, Data Centers – there is an opportunity for all backgrounds. In addition to our engineering practice, EBD offers construction project management services for our clients with a desire to fill out their construction management team with MEP subject-matter experts.

EBD has two commuter-friendly offices located on the north and south ends of the greater Seattle area and offers a hybrid work arrangement, following a consistent in-office training period for new hires.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage clients and project expectations including project milestone delivery, design coordination, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  2. Oversee mechanical and plumbing design through the stages of concept design to construction documentation.
  3. Mentor and train team members.
  4. Perform construction administration services including contractor support of RFIs, submittal approvals, and occasional site visits / punch walks.
  5. Provide project management of design and construction projects including proposal writing, staff resourcing, invoicing, contract negotiation, site visits, and quality control.
  6. Manage project fees and schedules to deliver projects on time and on budget.
  7. Perform calculations to support design decisions as it pertains to code requirements and recognized guidelines.
  8. Review and modify engineering specifications as they pertain to the project.
  9. Create, draft, and model design markups, schedules, site plans, specifications, details, and diagrams in 3D and 2D modeling software.

What the successful Senior Mechanical Engineer will have:

  1. Project and time management. The role will expect the applicant to support multiple projects that have independent schedules and independent delivery requirements.
  2. Effective communication. The applicant should be well spoken and able to effectively communicate the initiative of the design and the impacts from the decision-making process.
  3. Staff management. The role will require a minimum level of staff mentoring and project teaming.
  4. Public speaking and presentation. The role requires the candidate to develop effective presentations and lead presentations to diverse stakeholder groups. Effective communication skills in presenting technical subject matter to an audience of both technical and non-technical individuals is a core role requirement.
  5. Interpersonal IQ. The role requires the individual to manage client, architect, contractor, and owner expectations. An ability to communicate through the lens of your audience is critical to maintaining satisfaction across the entire stakeholder team.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited institution, PE licensure is a plus.
  2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in Healthcare, Aviation, Federal/Military, High Rise, Life Sciences, Commercial Office, and Data Centers vertical markets.
  3. An advanced understanding of mechanical and plumbing design systems.
  4. An understanding of fire protection and energy modeling is preferred.
  5. An ability to delegate and manage staff.
  6. Experience with 3D modeling software including (but not limited to) Revit, AutoCAD, IES, Trane Trace.
  7. Demonstrated capability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  8. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  9. LEED and WELL certifications are preferred.
