GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
We are looking for a dynamic and exceptional BD expert who has a successful track-record in Business development in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.
The position is deemed a CRITICAL leadership position and therefore carries great potential and rewards.
It comprises significant degree of market analyses, sector analyses, pricing, logistics, client relationship, structuring, outreach, project management, creating actionable business strategies, nurturing relationships with clients, tracking business performance, allocating and managing the company’s resources, forecasting, sales strategies, marketing, digital marketing, ROI, and, growth opportunities to help the company grow by identifying new business opportunities, building partnerships, and increasing revenue.

- ~10+ years of experience in BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, SALES, MARKETING AND RELATED AREAS;
- Prior years of experience in BIOTECHNOLOGY, LIFE SCIENCES, PHARMA related BD, sales, marketing. .
- This is NOT a research position. Please do NOT apply if your background is only in life sciences research.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities include developing and executing a business development plan for cell and gene therapy products, primarily the “CAR-T” cell gene therapies for cancers, and viral vectors.
It would entail identifying potential partners, clients, customers in the need of manufacturing CAR-T cell therapies and/or viral vectors; needs assessment; forging partnerships; technology transfers; contracts and agreements negotiations; and maintaining ongoing commercial and technical relationships.
KEY SKILLS NEEDED
- Strategic Business Development:
- Ability to develop and execute business strategies for cell and gene therapy products, particularly CAR-T therapies.
- Proven success in identifying new business opportunities, partners, and clients.
- Market Analysis & Industry Expertise:
- Strong understanding of the biotech, oncology, virology, and immunology sectors.
- Expertise in market research, pricing strategies, and competitive landscape analysis, specifically for CAR-T cell therapies and viral vectors.
- Partnership Building & Relationship Management:
- Experience in forging and maintaining long-term commercial and technical relationships.
- Skilled in outreach, client relationship management, and nurturing partnerships to drive business growth.
- Contract Negotiation & Technology Transfer:
- Expertise in negotiating contracts, agreements, and technology transfers.
- Strong legal and technical knowledge related to biotech products, licensing, and partnerships.
- Project Management:
- Proficiency in managing multiple business development projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, and Trello.
- Sales and Marketing Strategies:
- Strong skills in sales, digital marketing, and ROI optimization for biotech products.
- Ability to create actionable marketing and sales strategies to drive revenue and growth.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:
- Proficiency in business analytics, SWOT analysis, and risk management.
- Ability to use tools like Salesforce, CRM, CrunchBase, and other business intelligence platforms for performance tracking and decision-making.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to present complex scientific and business concepts clearly and persuasively.
- Leadership & Decision-Making:
- Strong leadership skills to guide teams and influence stakeholders.
- Ability to make high-impact decisions in a dynamic, high-stakes environment.
- Global Business Acumen:
- Understanding of global markets and the ability to operate in diverse cultural and regulatory environments, particularly in developing countries.
These skills are critical for the success of this role, as they align with the responsibilities of expanding global access to cutting-edge gene therapies.
PERSONNEL SKILLS:
· Experience with various BD systems and tools including SalesForce, CrunchBase, CRM, business analytics, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Trello, SWOT Analysis Templates, RAM and Risk assessment Templates, among others.
· Excellent communications skills and interpersonal skills.
· Candidate should be able to work with a global team across global time zones; cultural differences; multi-tasking; results-oriented; experienced in working at small biotech environment; good communication skills; highest levels of integrity; and able to deliver results based upon milestones.
· Must have excellent presentation skills to be able to hold scientific and business discussions with clients, customers, partners and collaborators at conferences and exhibitions.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, commerce, sales, marketing, management, or related field. Preferably MBA or PhD (life sciences)
Gene therapies being highly technical field, the candiate must have high level of familiarity with the medical field and must be able to present scientific content and be able to hold credible medical discussions with external audience such as biotech companies, academic institutions, and medical centers.
MINIMUM YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE AREA:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in BD in biotechnology or pharma.
Prior BD experience in life sciences preferably biotechnology, oncology, virology, immunology for at least ten years with proven results.
TRAVEL:
This position does require some travel within United States and occasionally abroad to meet with clients, customers, partners, and collaborators.
