Position SummaryUnder supervision, prepares standard and custom designs, drawings and bill of materials and quotes for industrial control equipment from specifications in accordance with applicable codes and standards. Computer aided design duties include production drawings, customer approval drawings, (BOMs) bill of materials, routings, and engineering change orders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Designs electrical/mechanical control solutions for industrial control equipment in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Designs hazardous area junction boxes and control panels for installations requiring associated approvals.
  • Develops standard wiring diagrams, layouts, bill of materials and other drawings as necessary for assembly and wiring of low voltage control equipment.
  • Produces production and customer approval drawings using CAD design software.
  • Maintains new and revised product drawing files according to ISO procedures and standards.
  • Works closely with all departments within the organization to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information and are error free.
  • Develops and implements designs that will improve productivity and reduce costs in the overall manufacturing process. Develops associated documentation.
  • Ensures thorough familiarity with and compliance to all Environmental, Safety and Security Policies while performing assigned duties in accordance with those policies.
  • Conducts tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental and security regulations (state/federal laws, ISO 9001, CFR 1910 OSHA) as well as Company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for notifying your direct supervisor, manager and/or a member of the Executive Staff of any risks associated with the Quality Management System.
  • Performs other duties as directed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment controls and enclosure design.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or has aptitude to learn AC/DC electrical theory.
  • Familiar with production methods, good working knowledge of industrial tools and mechanical assemblies and Weidmüller products.
  • Solid understanding of drafting techniques and principles and familiarity with engineering terminology.
  • Experience and aptitude to learn computer aided drafting software.
  • SAP Enterprise software is a plus.
  • Familiar with industry standards such as UL, NEC, ATEX, IECEx a plus
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Computer literate: proficiency in Microsoft Office software products.
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter, able to multi-task and work on several projects according to shifting urgency.
  • Self-learner, research on new information and train others as necessary.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical Engineering or equivalent education/experience.
  • Proficiency in Computer aided design software. 3D experience is a plus.
  • Experience in Electro-Mechanical design is preferred
  • Experience in the industrial controls industry preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of hazardous area protection techniques is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in a panel shop or in the electrical trade is a plus

Physical Demands

  • Frequently remain in a stationary position, particularly, but not limited to, at a desktop computer
  • Occasional moving about, particularly, but not limited to, the office building including the warehouse, manufacturing areas.
  • Frequent repetitive use of hands/arm: particularly concerning typic, writing, phone and computer use
  • Continuous communication: verbal and written, phone and electronic
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (demos, collateral, equipment, etc.)
