Established in 1970, Serving Seniors helps San Diego County’s low-income seniors overcome poverty through whole-person, wraparound support including meals, housing, health and social services, and enrichment activities. Our flagship Gary & Mary West Senior Wellness Center in downtown San Diego operates 365 days a year and offers integrated care, including health and social services, housing navigation, enrichment activities, and linkage to over 25 onsite direct service partners. Last fiscal year, we provided over 1,400,000 meals and coordinated services to 6,800 older adults.

Job Summary:

The Development Officer provides administrative support for the Chief Philanthropy Officer and the Development and External Affairs Department. Primary duties include managing the donor software program and processing contributions to Serving Seniors in accordance with agency policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  1. Administrative Support:
    • Provide administrative support including scheduling, drafting correspondence, taking minutes, and preparing meeting materials.
    • Communicate with departments, community partners, board members, donors, and volunteers.
    • Maintain and organize Development Department files.
    • Conduct donor prospect research as directed.
    • Coordinate with the Finance Department to reconcile contributions.
  2. Donor Cultivation and Database Administration:
    • Maintain and manage donor database and other fundraising software.
    • Process thank you letters to all donors in a timely manner.
    • Develop donor reports for leadership and the Board of Directors.
    • Participate in stewardship activities such as thank-a-thons and recognition events.
  3. Marketing and Public Relations Support:
    • Assist with marketing and public relations efforts.
  4. Event Support:
    • Assist with special event planning and coordination.
    • Maintain registration lists and process guest payments.
    • Research upcoming funding opportunities.
  5. General Agency Support:
    • Act as in-kind donations coordinator for the agency.
    • Carry out other duties as necessary for organizational success.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum one to three years experience performing general administrative duties.
  • One to three years’ experience in public relations or fundraising (preferred).
  • Experience with fundraising software (preferred).
  • Experience working within a nonprofit organization (preferred).

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office programs and database software.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Pay: $28.85
