Director, Cloud Engineering and SRE

Cloud Platforms, and how they are used, play a foundational role at Brightcove and are at the heart of how we make product, engineering, and operational decisions. Our centralized Cloud Engineering organization is a specialized team of SME’s that collaborate with a variety of organizations to drive decisions and provide direction for future growth at Brightcove. The Cloud Engineering team designs, develops, secures and operates our cloud ecosystem and manage the lifecycle of DevOps tools to enable developers.

The Director, Cloud Engineering and SRE position will be responsible for leading the cloud engineering vision, strategy and oversee the cloud technologies and SRE team, by driving observability, focusing on reliability, establishing and promoting technology standards, processes, enabling engineering teams and positively impact engineering quality and velocity. This role reports to the SVP, Engineering.

This individual will lead Engineers across our global Cloud Engineering teams, drive rapid innovative solutions and processes, and cultivate strong bonds between Engineering and Product organizations to deliver improved business outcomes and unparalleled video experiences for our customers.

The purpose of this role will be to lead and execute the cloud-native platform that powers Brightcove's world class video platform. This leader will also be assessing the current platform landscape, best practices, and processes and ways of working, developing a long-term vision and plans to execute on that vision. This includes focusing on operational excellence, innovation and process improvement. The successful candidate will have expertise in disciplines such as, cloud technologies, SRE principles and practices, systems architecture, DevOps and security engineering. In addition, experience within the video and/or media industry is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a global team of Cloud engineers responsible for delivering best-in-class platform engineering solutions and SRE practices
  • Lead efforts to design, implement, and govern Cloud operations
  • Develop and execute the long term engineering vision and accompanying roadmap in close collaboration with Product and Engineering leaders
  • Translate engineering vision into actionable plans with clear and measurable goals that are aligned to organizational objectives
  • Direct the execution of the engineering team and proactively remove obstacles so teams and leaders are more effective
  • Manage our cloud infrastructure services, tools, SaaS platforms and vendor partners
  • Continuously evolve our deployment practices and improve agile development practices
  • Define and continuously evolve our Incident Management and RCA processes
  • Take ownership of driving SRE principles across key areas such as Observability, CI/CD, Chaos engineering, Release Management, and SRE Ops.
  • Influence architecture, development and drive key technology decisions
  • Cultivate a culture of urgency without emergency, emphasizing smart innovation of practices and processes and bring a relentless focus on delivering high quality and value for our customers
  • Be a thought leader in the community and industry, building trusted relationship inside the organization and with partners
  • Optimize team performance by creating an inclusive environment that values psychological safety and motivates everyone to do their best work
  • Interpret and apply understanding of key financial indicators to make better business decisions. Planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
  • Bring a consultative approach in providing domain expertise around video streaming technology, and promote Brightcove’s products with customers, prospects and partners
  • Drive integration strategies, enterprise architectures, platforms, and application infrastructure required to implement a complete solution
  • Travel to customer sites, conferences, and other related events as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience required. A Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience as an architect and engineering leader in a B2B, SaaS environment
  • 8+ years of people management experience across multiple teams, geographies, and leaders
  • Proven ability to build engaged, high–performing teams that thrive in fast-paced global environments
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), Observability solutions, DevOps tools, security engineering
  • Extensive knowledge of agile methodologies, continuous integration/delivery, SRE practices and well versed in modern architecture implementations
  • Expertise in cloud based systems and products (e.g., applications, infrastructure, storage, platforms, data and security), and deep understanding of market trends and emerging technologies.
  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS solutions, hybrid cloud deployments, and on-premise-to-cloud migration deployments

  • Comfortable with managing multiple work streams, coordinating resources and prioritizing work across teams
