Job Summary

Performs MRI examinations on patients as requested by the referring physicians. Coordinates patient flow and activities of the MRI Scanner.

Job Specific Duties

  1. Checks patient chart or prescription to guarantee proper exam is performed.
  2. Coordinates MRI exams with other departments and doctors' offices.
  3. Documents all the required information in patient log book and patient scan sheet.
  4. Exercises extreme care and caution while obtaining medical history and reason for examination in order to promote patient safety and avoid damage to MRI equipment.
  5. Follows hospital patient-identification policy prior to performing examination.
  6. Informs shift supervisor of equipment repair and keeps MRI equipment clean and orderly.
  7. Responsible for maintaining current educational levels to stay current on new MRI issues.
  8. Monitors all patients in the MRI scanner with nursing assistance when appropriate.
  9. Operates MRI scanner to produce detailed high quality diagnostic images.
  10. Performs scans in a timely manner to reduce patient delays.
  11. Enters and transmits patient information to PACS promptly upon completion of examination.

Qualifications

  1. Enrolled or completed a training program in MRI (or) 3 years of MRI Technologist experience.
  2. American Registry of Rad Tech ARRT-MR or ARMRIT - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment-required within 1 year of hire date.
  3. American Heart Association CPR BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. 1 year of experience as an MRI technologist preferred.
  2. Knowledge of location of emergency equipment and their functions.
  3. Knowledge of cardiac, fetal, and other specialties are preferred.
  4. Knowledge of working in an OR environment preferred.
  5. Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  7. Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  8. Ability to problem solve and adapt standard clinical procedures to the individual client's needs.
  9. Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
