Overview:

A professional who has a minimum of 10 years of estimating experience and a minimum of 3 years of field experience in Heavy Civil Construction. Also knowledgeable in contract delivery methods: design-build, design-bid-build, Lump Sum, etc., and contract experience with FDOT/Turnpike, cities/counties, port authority, and South Florida Water Management District.
This candidate must be a self-motivated person, willing to collaborate with peers, teach engineers, and constantly strive to identify problems and solutions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Understand bid items, basis of estimate, skills to identify errors and discrepancies in plans, and specifications, and solutions.
  2. Wide understanding of reading plans, specifications, request for proposal, request for information, addendums, technical special provisions, etc.
  3. Build green sheet estimate, breakdown activity structure, construction schedule, and risk matrix analysis.
  4. Create job budget for awarded contracts.
  5. Understand bid strategy, cost savings initiative, and management skills.
  6. Perform accurate quantity takeoffs within the time frame.
  7. Capable of individually estimating an entire job.
  8. Study and review all estimating reports: equipment total hours, labor total hours, key indicators, equipment balance analysis, etc.
  9. Constantly review updated FDOT Standards and Specifications.
  10. Full review of bid submittal package, and lead estimating discussion with company executives.
  11. Obtain clarifications on plans and specifications from owner or engineer of records.
  12. Coordinate and invite suppliers and subcontractors to quote different scope of work.
  13. Analyze suppliers and subcontractor pricing input when required.
  14. Build and strengthen subcontractor and supplier relationships.
  15. Complete understanding of unit cost analysis.
  16. Assist with pre-bid meetings and bid submittals.
  17. Keep updated information regarding commodity trade prices.
  18. Continuously look for construction technologies and techniques.
  19. Maintain continuing education in construction: assist at engineering conventions, forums, etc.
  20. Continue communication with field personnel (project engineer, superintendent, foreman, fleet manager, etc.) to track and adjust unit costs as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 13 years of experience in Heavy Civil.
  • Must be located in Florida.
  • B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management degree.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Possess high work values, integrity, and ethical standards.
  • Possess great focus to meet and exceed company requirements and expectations.
  • Possess good organization skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge in bridge and roadway construction.
  • Savvy in foundations, concrete structures, temporary structural systems, underground and utility work, earthwork, signalization, roadway lighting and signing, intelligent transportation systems, safety standards, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in design-build and design-bid-build contracts with FDOT and Turnpike Enterprises.
  • Teaching and mentoring skills.

Software Skills:

  • 30-Hour OSHA training.
  • Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Scheduling software, P6 Primavera.
  • Heavy Bid from HCSS.
  • Vista Accounting software.
  • Bluebeam by REVU.
  • AutoCAD - Civil 3D.
  • MicroStation.
