As an Engineering Risk Management Lead, you will hold a senior leadership position within JM, serving as an expert and visionary in the field of engineering risk management. You will provide strategic direction, thought leadership, and technical guidance to ensure our people, operations, and communities are kept safe. Your expertise will directly contribute to the mitigation of our principal risks. You will drive innovation, foster collaboration, and elevate our organization's position as a leader in Environment, Health, and Safety.

In this role, you will work closely with the engineering teams centrally and in each of the business units to improve our controls around risks associated with our operations to prevent impacts on safety, infrastructure, and business continuity.

Your Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and communicate a strategic vision for engineering risk management that aligns with organizational goals and objectives to drive continuous improvement, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
  2. Define long-term roadmaps and tactical delivery plans to contribute to achieving company safety and financial targets as part of the engineering transformation.
  3. Lead the development and deployment of tools and processes to identify, mitigate, and monitor risks associated with operations to keep our people and communities safe and to protect our license to operate.
  4. Directly manage a team of technical experts (1-5 direct reports) and indirectly influence a wider team of Technical Authorities to support our global sites with identifying cost-effective ways to improve the engineering controls around risks.
  5. Contribute to the delivery of capital projects globally by providing engineering guidance on 'safety by design', contributing to our company safety targets and proactive risk management.
  6. Partner with EHS, engineering Technical Authorities, and the sites to improve the management of high-risk categories such as Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, and Functional Safety, amongst others.
  7. Create tools and governance to manage other engineering risk categories e.g.: Property Loss, Environmental Control, Regulatory Compliance, Engineering Quality Control, Disaster Preparation and Recovery, Engineering Change Management (MOC), Environmental Compliance.
  8. Establish and manage a Duty Holder Programme by creating tools, processes, and governance for the Duty Holders to better manage safety & engineering risks in the business. This will include developing and deploying a competency framework, maturity models, and training.
Requirements for the Role:
  1. Engineering degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, or approved equivalent discipline. Significant experience working in a chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, steel, or other process-related manufacturing environment - Essential
  2. Chartered Engineer, PE or another equivalent credential as determined by JM - Essential
  3. Experience in working with a major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor on a project within the above industries - Essential
  4. Demonstrated examples of a stringent attitude to working safely in a manufacturing environment globally - Essential
  5. Extensive experience in risk management roles with a track record of leadership and technical excellence - Essential
  6. Confidence to question, challenge, and escalate issues as appropriate. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing demands - Essential
